Has anyone tried it? I thought it would be a kick in the pants. 2 of my friends want to try it. I thought about it last year but never found the time to follow through.

@Mame,
I told my friends that I doubt anything could come out of it other than a fun experience.

Mame, how's Canada?

@martybarker,
I have no clue what speed dating is?

@CalamityJane,
Speed dating is an organized evening where men and women rotate every 5 or so minutes to meet the other people in the room. Like musical chairs only the men move. Then I think at the end of the evening you find out which people want to keep in touch. The exchange of phone numbers can only be
mutual of course.
I think this is how it works anyway.

@martybarker,
Quote:
Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates", usually lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell or clinks a glass to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure (especially on women) to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face

@martybarker,
Oh, I think I've seen that in one movie (forgot the title) where the guy didn't move after his time was up and it created somewhat of a ruckus.

Hm, it could be fun if there was a selection prior to this. Marty, are there
any requirements, resp. are the people screened prior to the "dates"? I mean
it would only make sense if the people have something in common other than
wanting to date.

MB, it's bloody frigid here. I think it was -9 this morning. Icy, too. How's WA?

@Mame,
CJ, I don't think there's any presreening other than division of age brackets.

Mame, It's sunny here but cold. I'm about to go out now.

@martybarker,
speed dating sounds like a party game.

Sort of like spin the bottle with out the kissing.

I think it sounds like fun Smile

@mismi,
Really? I don't think I would ever attempt it. I would have a horrible time
in such a setting.

Heck of a nice picture in profile, martybarker. How do you type with no arms, though?

@CalamityJane,
Oh yeah...just sitting and talking to someone - no pressure, no expectations and if you happen to meet someone you have common interest with - well then all the better.

Of course not now - I don't think my husband would approve - spoil sport that he is. Wink

@shewolfnm,
I thought you were taken. Anyway, I guess I'll improve my social skills a little bit and get brave enough to really start dating again. Most of all, my friends and I will probably talk about it for months comparing our impressions.

@martybarker,
At least a few A2K'rs have tried it. Hopefully they'll check in.

My impression from their feedback at the time was that once was more than enough.

I've read some very funny satires and parodies of the format.
