Fer sure! My phone really was out of order. I called CenturyLink and they wanted my email address. They were maybe going to send me an email through their own broadband network because my phone wasn't working.

When I called Verison to tell them I couldn't receive or make calls, they asked if I was using the phone line I was reporting to them for the call we were on. Duh....

You could have been using Skype or another internet protocol phone service, FF.

I was using my cell phone, JTT. The one thing I couldn't have been using was my Verizon landline phone--that's why their question was so dumb--that's why I was calling them, I had no landline phone service.

The former Quest and now Century Link Phone Trail Recording Man is someone I've listened to in frustration for more than seven years now. My brain clenches at his first syllables. If you have to wait some time to reach a human (all our humans are busy), homicidal tendencies may develop in the most serene of souls during his repetitive sales pitches.

Having a snickers bar handy when you call - orequivalent choice - is a good idea.

This process surely could be improved upon, if only by changing the voices from time to time.

I feel your pain. Every couple years my landline gets progressively more wonky and then goes dead entirely. Apparently it's because squirrels really love to chew the whatever the phone co. uses to insulate its cables, and eventually moisture gets in and shorts them out. You''d think after a century they'd realize they've got a problem here, but no.... Thank the gods, cellphones came along. I used to have to walk to the supermarket and use the payphones there to call Verizon, but they took them out.

Finally, the deer are beginning to use their designated crossing points, rather than the more random jumping into traffic willie nillie as before.
