Are his ideas good, bad, what?

I'm an anarchist, so I am curious.

If you are curious about Noam, you are more of a sadist than an anarchist...

Hey Cav

Do you think leftwing knows that Chomsky made enough money as a linguist that he could start telling the world that he was actually an anarchist?

Noam Chomsky is described by Judge Richard A. Posner in his new book, "Public Intellectuals".

Posner writes:

"Although most of Chomsky's political writings concern US foreign policy, they are anchored in an economic theory, Marxian in character, that denies that capitalism is a viable economic system. It can be kept afloat, he believes, only by exploiting, deceiving, and intimidating workers, dominating and exploiting backward countries; suppressing all experiments with alternative economic systems, such as socialism, and harming families and children."

end of quote

and that's just to start with!!!!

Sofia. I am convinced, after reading some of the posts on the entire spectrum of the politics Forum that a good many of the left-wingers wouldn't even begin to understand what Chomsky is saying.

In reality, Chomsky is probably the most influential figure in modern liguistics and probably in cognitive science as well but he thinks, as many intellectuals do, that his expertise in those areas automatically confers expertise in politics and foreign affairs.

It doesn't.

I really don't think that Chomsky knows that Marxism is dead and Socialism is dying.

Tartarin:

Please don't reveal yourself to be absolutely unaware of signifivcant writers today--Partly unaware will do.

Your stunning comment is one that I heard several times from eighth graders twenty five years ago when I taught for a short while.

Your comment is not only trite but dated.

Why don't you try to strain some of your brain cells and make an attempt to show that Posner is wrong?

Thank you, Perception. Owing to the paucity of conservatives on these posts, our ideas are rarely received with approval. But although approval is welcome, that is not the goal. The goal is the extirpation of unsourced lies and half-truths which attempt to denigrate the current administration.

Perception, the problem is not so much that there are attacks, the problem is that the attacks are founded on innuendo and false premises for the most part.

No one I know has a whole lot of respect for Posner. Many consider him an one-time brain turned show-boater.
