@OGIONIK,
I was thinking you were up early... are you actually up late?

I kind of self-hypnotize. Hard to explain, but I can usually get myself to sleep if I have to. A sort of purposeful zoning out, unfocusing, letting go. Nothing specific along the lines of counting sheep or whatever.

Well, one thing -- Otis Redding's "Tell the truth" evidently has a rhythm that is the same as my breathing when I sleep. If I play it in my head, that usually helps things along.

@sozobe,
I take out some work that I don't really want to do, or start reading something that I have been putting off. Anything that is a 'should do' typically makes me very sleepy.

@OGIONIK,
Do you have a separate room for sleeping? Or do you do everything in one room (computer, etc.)?

@OGIONIK,
Dude. Enroll with your community college, get a job waiting tables, find a couple of roomates and get a place of your own.

You'll be too tired to worry about not getting sleep.

@OGIONIK,
Not to kibbitz, but finding a job should be a full-time job in itself. Wink

Also, get the heck out of the house during the day. Go to the library, or the bookstore, or play basketball, or something.

Especially, go for a walk at dusk. This helps set your body's clock.

@DrewDad,
i know... i go out every day like 5 hours...

and when im at home i am on classifieds and craigslist...

i think i really should just every day to this animal clinic right by my house, just walk in every morning, call every afternoon, another call right before closing.

or something, ive been there 3 times already.

try try try again.... ad infinitum, i dont even know what that means.

damnit anyways. good idea on the walk every dusk.

i jog every day now maybe i should do it at like 7-8 instead of 4-5 in the afternoon. i dunno. i hear physical activity wakes you up if you do it before you go to sleep.

@OGIONIK,
Yes you ARE right about the physical activity. It's better to do it earlier in your day rather than later (for good sleep "hygeine" they call it) I've suffered from insomnia so many years I am just used to getting up and doing something else. Otherwise I'd go nuts. Melatonin is a key in proper sleep cycle maintenance ... also don't do anything in bed other than sleep (or have sex) In other words, don't watch TV in bed, don't pay bills in bed, don't eat in bed, etc etc. Also do try to have a set schedule of when you get up & when you go to bed and try not to deviate from it. When you find your body's natural sleep rhythym then - you will be all set. Too bad it takes some of us so many years to do just that one simple thing. And get 20 to 30 min of early morning direct bright sunlight (OR do what I did, I bought a "lightbox" so I am not dependent on the weather ) We've had a very cloudy & rainy summer season this year and these new "lightboxes" are supposed to be great for people who live in areas without much bright sunlight & where winters are always long, gray & cloudy.
