Unable to Connect to Iternet/Zone Alarm

A few days ago, I was unable to connect to the internet. I called my ISP, who checked, and said that my signal was strong. She asked me if I used Zone Alarm. I said that I did, and had been using it for many years without any problems. She claimed that she had been getting a lot of calls from people who were having trouble with connecting to the internet, and what they had in common, is that they all used Zone Alarm. When I turned off my Zone Alarm for a couple of seconds, I was able to connect, but I'd be damned if I were going to go on the internet without a firewall.

I wasn't going to futz around with a dead internet connection, so I removed Zone alarm, and my virus scan (losing a few months of service) and bought myself a security suite. After installation, everything works fine.

Today I get a message from Zone Alarm that there is a problem with connection to the internet after a certain Microsoft patch was installed. They described a workaround. Fine and dandy, but how the hell was I to get that information, if my internet connection was not working?

Anyhow, for those who care, here is the letter. Unfortunately, when I copied and pasted it, the link did not paste, but I suppose that you could go to the Zone Alarm site if you need any information about this.

i was just hearing about this at another site, the person there said that he disabled his automatic installation for any windows updates, so that he can wait a few days before installing for this type of reason
