Landlords are one group of people I don't give much thought to -- and when I do, I don't feel particularly sympathetic with them.
Until today. I was just reading the blog of a woman who lives in L.A. She's one of my favorite bloggers.
She happened to run into her landlord the other day, who asked her, "want to see something gross?"
"You know I do!," she replied jokingly.
So he gave her a tour of an apartment which had just been vacated by the previous tenant.
She couldn't believe what she saw. It was apparent that the oven had never been cleaned -- "new filth on top of old filth" was the way she described it.
In fact, the floors were covered with filth, and some corners of the walls were almost completely obscured by cobwebs.
But the bathroom was the worse. Black filth on the floor, an indescribably dirty toilet -- and the state of the bathtub made her recoil.
Sheesh! The landlord told her that one out of ten tenants lives this way. He even had a book of pics of what previous tenants had left behind -- for him to clean up.
Damn! I don't think I could be a landlord. I don't think I could deal with that!
When we owned income property, we were very lucky and had good tenants 99% of the time. The only negative I can remember is a teenager who broke the closet door when they vacated.
Glad you had good luck, CI.
It amazes me how some people choose to live! That black filth on the bathroom floor -- I don't even want to know how that got there!
<shudders>
The scary part is, these are people we deal with on a daily basis.
You know how some people are so disgusting in public restroom? I'll always think "They wouldn't do this in there home"
but, apparantly they do.
Yes, Chai. It's so......gross! As the blogger said, "How could someone even think they're getting clean in a bathtub like that?"
I don't know how people keep from getting sick living like that. Eech!
And I'd feel so guilty if I moved out and left the place like that -- for someone else to clean up.
You'd think the guy could have cleaned up a little bit at least before he moved.

Only 1 out of 10? They're doing pretty good then I think.
Yeah, I guess the odds are pretty good, fishin, but still....... that one out of ten is pretty bad!
