I often hear one song and it makes me immediately want to hear another, sort of like an embedded musical memory.
Whether this is because those two songs were put back to back on a well-loved and listened to album by an artist or because I've made a compilation of my own in which one follows the other, I'm often so frustrated hearing one song, and wanting to hear the one that I think should come next that I immediately go to youtube or my cd collection and try to find that next song.
So I thought I'd make a thread of my favorite couplets.
Dutchy's poem from one word today inspired my first:
One of my heroes - Stevie Ray Vaughn
1) Mary Had a Little Lamb
2) Pride and Joy
I was gonna put this in my songs I'm a little embarrassed to admit I like thread - because this song is so overwrought, but legitimately deeply felt and has a beautiful melody so sometimes I even cry when I hear it:
but then I found this and now I can laugh and cry to the same melody - a perfect couplet
Another couplet for my dad (and me)- we were two peas in a pod:
The Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson) my dad's favorite group of guys:

another set of songs that because they're on my ipod in this order, I can't hear the one without wanting/needing to hear the other immediately after- but this one is a triplet = I think I should have been a dj - what a good mix:
and now I hear this in my head- because it's this way on my ipod- so this is a quadruplet:

I just figured out why I love this last mix so much - it's got the urban influence- (new Jersey) the texas influence (galveston) the urban/bluegrass influence (nj/ny/nc) and the british influence....this mix just speaks to me.

And then this one for Daddy, Andy, and George
Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Cross the water and home through the town
Past the shadows that fall down wherever we meet
Pretty soon now, I won't come around
I'm almost drowning in her sea
She's nearly fallen to her knees
Take the way home....
Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Where all the bodies hang on the air
If she remembers, she hides it whenever we meet
Either way now, I don't really care, cause I'm gone from there
I'm almost drowning in her sea, she's nearly crawling on her knees
She's down on her knees, down on her knees...
Take the way home that leads back to Sullivan Street
Where I'm just another rider burned to the ground
Come tumblin down
I'm almost drowning in her sea, she's nearly crawling on her knees
It's almost everything I need.

and then these two that go inextricably together in my musical brain:
