Skillful, yes. The subject matter could use some variety, though.

Ocean City is a dump-- except for the ocean part.

What's with the lights?

They're under water when the tide comes in?

Someone should tell the guy to use wood instead of sand for his carvings.

When I lived in the Midwest, their idea of recreation was re-enacting Christ on the cross, something about shlepping a 200 lb wooden cross to depict the suffering.

Wouldn't you be far more productive and Chrsit-like if you donated all that strength to build houses for the poor, etc?

Incredible work of art with all the detail and so forth and he must have an incredible amount of dedication to do this work each day.

Gala said wouldn't it be more productive and Christ-like to build houses for the poor, etc. A very important part of the Christian faith is to be a witness to others and this individual is doing this through his artwork. Granted it is also Christ-like to be helping others like the poor, but being a witness is an extremely important as eternal life is significantly more important and longer lasting than the sort time you are here on earth in your earthly body.

It's got nothing to do with it. I am being a pain. Don't you think there's a particular poignancy (read martyrdom) to it being washed away every night so the artist must return to his/her labors once again the following day.

Live and let live, sure, but it is in your face.

It would be similar to some rabid Israeli coming to the beach everyday and carving out a Star of David. In your face-- it may be nourishing to their soul, but I don't want religion/politics at the beach.

It wouldn't matter to me. I could the appreciate the beauty in either. As long as it wasn't something like child pornography or a disaster or killing - something most reasonable people would deem offensive.

Point taken. I think this has something to do with the region of the country I am from-- the blasphemous East Coast. Jesus freaks make me itchy and scratchy.

is it just sand sculptures then, or any form of Jesus-depicting art?
