What do you think about such events as raising money for a charity? The reason I am asking is because I have an "a thon" overload. There seems to be so many now and over several days and for great lengths. Are these still feasible ways to generate interest and money for worthy charities or do you feel there is an overload for these sorts of events?

Also, have you ever participated in any of the above? What was the distance and for what sort of charity? I used to (several years ago) do a walk for hunger each year - it was 20 miles. This used to be one of the major thons in the area.

Now it just seems that there are so many, I can't choose which one so I don't participate. I still donate money to causes and participate in other ways to help others, but I am "thoned" out.

Depends on the location and the cause. Some of them still rake in big $$.

I used to participate in the annual "Walk for the cure" thing for diabeties research but haven't in the last few years. The one's I participated in were 20 mile walks.

I still support one or two annual "pub crawls" but those are just with people/causes I know pretty well. It's easy to get overloaded in the urban areas where many of these charities are packed right on top of each other.

I used to do the March Of Dimes walks every year. I seem to remember they were like 9K. I always did well with the donations and the event.

I think a lot of people still do them and enjoy them. It seems like more people are doing it in groups nowadays. That's a nice thing to do with friends or loved ones.

I guess it just depends what stage in life you are at if you can give more than do or do more than give.
