If you drop a raw egg, pour (not shake - you need quite a bit) salt on it before you try to wipe it up. The salt changes it from a slime to a semisolid that you can scoop up in your rag without smearing it all over the place.

Mame, You're a fountain of great tips. Thanks, kid.

Butrflynet and farmerman, Thanks for the info.

Dys, Glad to know that Diane's car had been detailed, whatever the hell that means.

Wy, Great to see you. Thanks for the egg advice.

Cinnamon is a safe way to get rid of ants. Never got a body count, so don't know if it kills them or repels them. Also don't know if it works on all ants or only some species, but it definately works on some. Sprinkle some on their trails.

No tips just now, but a question.

I find myself staring at random items and thinking "There must be something I can use this for"

For example, the cardboard core of paper towels or toilet paper.

I'm more interested in using less of something, or reusing something in a different way, than recycling.

I believe it's more effective, since it doesn't create the junk in the first place.

Haven't found a use for toilet paper rolls, but the tubes from a roll of paper towels makes a good rahtata. You stand up in front of the group and announce a back country musical instrument called a rahtata. You get their attention, bring it to your mouth, and say Rah Ta Ta through the tube. Then you sit back down. It is amusing.

Chai, I save up my TP rolls for my niece's gerbils to chew.

Do you know anyone with pet rodents?

Oh hell, I'LL chew on them.

Chai--

Fold up small appliance cords and put them inside the cardboard.

Of course you'll have more toilet paper rolls than small appliances, but life isn't always well proportioned.

Toilet paper rolls also make good cat toys--as do gerbils. Sorry. I wrote that against my own will.

Take a long string or some yarn and run it through the paper roll. Then swing it around. Cats seem to like this.

Actually, noddy reminded me of something.

My roommate in college had a boa constrictor, and it would sometimes escape.

Not knowing it was there, my BF closed the end of its tail in the door, which made the snake mad.

In order to catch the snake, he looped an extension cord through a paper towel roll and used the end as a lasso.

The paper towel roll did not survive the process.

Paper Towel rolls make good plastic bag holders.

Don't know what TP rolls could do but, probably the same thing in lesser amounts.

It's good if you have a dog - fill up a papertowel roll with platic bags and stick in your car somewhere so you always have doggie do catcher.

They are also a good way to store baking parchment paper for reuse several more times before tossing it. Just roll up the paper and stuff it inside the paper towel roll to keep it clean and free from tears.

Hiya Margo, I checked gerberas on google. They're flowers. Gerbils are rodents. Aside from the animal/plant, appearance, etc. things, they're exactly the same.

quinn and Butrflynet, Thanks for the paper towel tube ideas.
