Well, Set, would you be surprised if my favorite ones are:

- Au bonheur des dames, Le rêve, Une page d'amour, Nana? Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Robert, you should try a short novel, in Spanish, for a start:

- Memoria de mis putas tristes (Memories of my melancholy whores), from Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Nice reading with an atmosphere..

I did read Le rêve, but that was before i knew there was a series of novels.

I've loved everything i've read by Marquez, but i don't do Spanish, so i've read all that i have read in English. I had never heard of that title.

Sure it's worth reading. When I was 15 I was a mean little bastard and read 'The Hill of Dreams' for no memorable reason with 'Heart of Darkness' as the reward since I dug the movie. 'Victory' is better. The importance of this turn-of-the-century stuff cannot be overstated, it was like humanity looking back at itself. A wet, juicy segue into the importance of Conrad relative to imperialism can be found in Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane series;

The Moon of Skulls
