Damn !! I am actually touched - and a bit embarassed - by a handful of warm responses, each from admired sources. I think you guys have - in very full measure - answered the question that is the subject of this thread.

I had a knee replacement a couple of weeks ago (correcting years of abuse from deep squats, running and accumulated injuries). Now it's several weeks of enforced inactivity & controlled exercises. So far, so good, but the inactivity is driving me nuts. (That's my excuse, anyway.)

I really was accumulating some dismay at the declining character of some of the threads here - too many loonies; too much name-calling and venom, etc. You have swept it all away.

Thank you.
yada yada yada.

Georgeob I wish you a continuing recovery with your knee surgery and am looking forward to seeing you again at the next San Francisco gathering. I'm due for surgery myselfn and the doctor wants me to lose weight. 15 pounds so far. Did you have to lose weight before surgery?

As I say continuing good luck.

No. The knee was in pretty bad shape from a couple of injuries, plus the usual wear & tear. However the post op pain medication wiped out my appetite - weight is down over 8 lbs/week & still falling. I'm doing fine restoring range of motion, but at this early stage I don't yet have any net improvement - it is a fairly long road, but I am determined to get there.

In many cases significant weight loss can defer the need for the procedure - as well as speed & improve recovery. Thanks for your good wishes, and I wish you luck with yours.

It is truly unfortunate if you believe in the truth of that assertion. I don't accept it. Are you certain you can reliably form such a judgement -- of another's 'openness and candor', in particular?

I am mystified by your intent here. Do you really mean to have crossed the line suggested by that post? What is your motivation for doing so?

Poor George, playing the victim now!

Well, let me reassure you.

My sole intent was having a bit of fun, at your expenses.

But it was done in all amicability..

No, not playing anything at all.

If so, then you won that round hands down.

However, the subject was one that usually doesn't provide much latitude for that sort of fun. Perhaps it was the nuance of language - as I said I was 'mystified", but unable to find an alternative: Perhaps my fault. Embarrassed

Forgotten. I'll get you later. Twisted Evil

So georgeob, I understand you were on some boat in the olden days. Is that true?

Yes, but it's not the one pictured -- much farther downstream. (And it wasn't aground, the last time I saw it -- honest.)

Clearly you are on Francis' side in this! What has he ever done for you?
