To my well-read cyber-friends on the Books forum:
I am looking for a memoir or biography that focuses on life in an urban street gang. It must be published after 1990 and if I am really lucky it will focus on a member or members of gangs based in Chicago or any Great Lakes city: Gangster Disciples, Folks, Vice Lords, etc. But you can't really go wrong with the Bloods or the Crips either (actually, you could really go wrong with them, but you get my drift).
I would conduct my own research, go under cover in an area such as Chicago's Garfield Park, but unfortunately I am allergic to murder.
Thank you for your assistance.
Hi Gargamel, what about this--
Fist, Stick, Knife, Gun: A Personal History of Violence in America By Geoffrey Canada
It's not specifically what you are looking for, but it's a good book and might assist you in some way.

After combing through some overly sensational, cliche-riddled memoirs, I've found the perfect book for my needs:
People and Folks: Gangs, Crime, and the Underclass in a Rustbelt City.
