Yesterday I bought myself some real flowers in a funky pot from Trader Joe's to add a little bit of life to my work space.
Don't you know, so far every person whose seen them thinks they're fake.
Now the black dog has really taken hold.
Buckle in. It's gonna be a long ride.
Why not learn to enjoy the dark time of the year?
Gala--
A real green and growing plant is a great way to celebrate the 4th week of winter. Next week we'll be one third of the way through the gloom.
GreenWitch--
I bet you don't even believe in the groundhog.
Statistically, January 21st is the coldest day of the year up here in the Northeast. Once we get past that sumbitch, we're on our way back to summer!!!
You have a choice: vodka or Scientology.
Pick one.
Gala's message got me thinking about winter and how depressing it really can be. I said to myself, "Gus, why don't you just head to the gas station, fill up that little car, and head somewhere warm?"
So I did that. My destination was going to be Corpus Christi.
Alas, the best laid plans of mice and men...
Looks like (from the video) you went to Germany. Great geography lesson here, gustav!

I so do appreciate the vigilance of the A2K police.
Okay-- thanks for all your posts. I'm feeling much better than yesterday. Whew. That was a corker.
Green Witch, in all due respect, sometimes you go low and have to ride it out.
Yes, Noddy, a little something green and colorful can't hurt-- although this morning I arrived and took one look at it and thought, the blasted plant does look fake--
Kicky-- you are so correct, although technically, it's all been uphill since December 21st, the shortest day of the year.
Gus, you are an eternal swamp dweller and don't know Jack s***.
Androgynous Red Pitcher--are Scientology and vodka the only choices?

If you really have the winter blahs, some light therapy might help.

Then again, a couple of shots of your favorite liquid in the evening can help ward off the winter demons!
Thanks Phoenix, I was expecting to to feel low-down, because it hits every year, until I adjust. I like winter. It's just a metter of getting back into the routine after it got broken because of the holidays.
I usually just excersise a lot. I've been a swimmer for, like, ever. It's exhilarating to go outside after a good swim into the super cold air.

Lack of winter sunshine is supposedly one of the reasons for the high rates of alcohol abuse in Russia--and possibly in Alaska.
I've just added new flowering plants to my work space: Hyacinth and Daffodils. They ought to be blooming by next week.
Snow is falling. According to weather.com there is a 50% chance this will be inconvenient snow.
Of course, this is the 4th week of winter.

We're having said inconvenience all day-- a "wintry mix." It snows huge big flakes, then mixes with ice, then turns to rain, then back again. It's pretty nice, although it's super dark out.
Kicky said something about the coldest day is around the end of January--That's pretty much the case, as my birthday is this month and I always recall it's the deadest of winter when the blessed event arrives.
January 21st. Only four more days until things start getting better! The forecast for this weekend does NOT look good though. Sunday night in the city it's supposed to go down to 15 degrees, with wind chills of ZERO. Yuk.
kicky, if the freelance thing doesn't work out you might consider a career as a Meteorologist? Think of the perks...
Todays weather: mild, above freezing, all of yesterday's inconveniences will be melted by the end of the day.
