We only maintained, stored, and loaded them onto B36's, B47's and B52's. We knew all the safety features on those bombs, and why it's impossible to have an accident with them. In the beginning, we had to wear badges that measured the amount of radiation we were exposed to, but by the time my enlistment was over, we didn't have to man-handle the uranium capsules. Since I was able to father two healthy sons, I know my work with nukes didn't affect me.
