This song gets me weeping every time I hear it. I've never heard such an emotive song nor such a genuine interpretation by such and amazing trio. That audience had the rarest treat that night. A special treat is to listen to Ray Charles play the piano and sing. Impossible for me to select one as a fave. Bless Youtube for not disabling it ...yet.

I have learned that Leon (who opens the singing) wrote it around 1970 when Rita Coolidge left him.

Leon Russell sang the first verse, Willie Nelson sang the second verse, and Charles sang the remainder of the song in this unforgettable performance. Nelson, who stood nearby during Charles' performance, was moved to tears."
