Bubba...

(ok, i'll start back towards the beginning)

been getting my fish act together cuz i am spending more time in the cabin.

started to fill a 60 gallon tank the other night, and (say oh **** here) it leaked.

mad scramble to remove water (it is much easier to add)

moved tank to huge oversized bathroom with stone floor. (went to bed)

(cut to present)

I enter the bathroom as I am getting ready to head to town, and there is Bubba...

squatting in a 1/2 inch of water. but owning sole occupancy of the giant glass box. (even her belly was wet)

Would any of you specialists care to write something on the origin of the phrase "rhythm & blues"?

I heard something about this, I'm looking for confirmation (or new information).
Any links would be good.

@McTag,
Found this on wikipedia.

Rhythm and blues is a genre of popular African American music created in the 1940s to the 1950s. The term was originally used by record companies to refer to recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans, at a time when "urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular.

The term has subsequently had a number of shifts in meaning. In the early 1950s and beyond, the term "rhythm and blues" was frequently applied to blues records, for instance, John Lee Hooker's "I'm in the Mood" became number-one on Billboard R&B Music Charts. Starting in the 1960s, after this style of music contributed to the development of "rock and roll", the term "R&B" became used - particularly by white groups " to refer to music styles that developed from and incorporated electric blues, as well as gospel and soul music. By the 1970s, "rhythm and blues" was used as a blanket term for soul and funk. The modern evolution of R&B is named "Contemporary R&B".

@Letty,

Thanks Letty.

The Wikipedia entry is a good one.

I think originally it had a lot to do with the segregation of commercial music in the late 40s and early 50s, when "rhythm" music was a euphemism indicating music principally targeted at coloured folks.

Thank goodness for Jerry Wexler and Lieber & Stoller eh.

@Barry The Mod,
I am shocked and saddened to hear Brittany Murphy died...
I liked her a lot. Though she had a great voice...

Paul Oakenfold feat Brittany Murphy - faster kill pussycat

That's not a great song...She sang Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better in Little Black Book - and I loved it - but I can't find it.
