@Rockhead,
Statement as of 7:30 PM CDT on March 27, 2009
... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Saturday...
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 1 PM CDT Saturday.
Snow will continue to fall over south central Kansas for tonight
through Saturday morning... periods of sleet could affect
locations near the Kansas Turnpike this evening. The snow will be
very heavy at times... with snowfall rates approaching two inches
per hour... especially with any periods of thunder snow. Total
snow accumulations of 9 to 16 inches are possible by Saturday
afternoon across south central Kansas. The combination of heavy
snow and gusty north winds will cause extensive blowing and
drifting of snow... and near zero visibilities. This will create
very hazardous or impossible driving conditions across the region
with blizzard conditions at times.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
