Did you get what you wanted? I couldn't see another thread on this so thought I would start one.

What was your best gift or your most useless / hideous?

It's a bit ungrateful I know but it's only us innit?

Laughing

My best pressies were:-

lovely necklace of my mum and some perfume that I can never afford to buy for myself.

Most useless - leopard print scarf and gloves. Confused

Hermione -- Gift card to Upstairs at the Square (a Cambridge eatery).
Clive -- A "duo-dri" long-sleeved running shirt.
Nigel -- A New England Patriots tie & a bag of dark-roast coffee beans.

The Lovely Bride and I did something I swore I'd never do and bought
something I swore I'd never buy. What I swore I'd never do is buy one thing
as a present to the both of us instead of exchanging gifts. What we bought is
big and rectangular and way too expensive. I'm regretting it already. Never
again. I swear.

George--

Never say never.

My best gifts this year were the kind that can't be wrapped.

On the credit side, I wangled a reprieve from the usual "festive" agony this year.
That was my gift.

but

.... it would have been nice to have been able to spend this day with a bunch of people called "family" who are half-way functional.

msolga, that's my favourite thing about Christmas. Spending Christmas eve at my sister's house with sister, b-i-l, nephews, husband, sister's f-i-l. I would say we are half-functional (as long as my parents are not there...)

Best present that can be wrapped - tickets for the Bruce Springsteen concert in June.

One positive thing about negative family members is that you can treasure their absences for the rest of your life.

Once upon a time, the First Mr. Noddy expressed his manly temper by throwing the turkey at me--in front of the children.

That was our last Thanksgiving together.

I've had some less-than-perfect holidays since then, but in comparison...

Sounds kinda funny to me. I can just see that turkey flying across the room. Noddy, care to share what you did to provoke such an outrage?

I have some friends who bought an enormous television last year. It completely dominated their den and they were both simply embarrassed by it. It too was too...too. I think after awhile they got used to it, tho. Hopefully you will too. Smile

Happy belated birthday, Bella.
Did it bother you as a kid to have your birthday so close to Christmas?

Yes. It sucked because everyone always forgot it.

As nearly as I could gather from his drunken rambling, I was a better mother to our sons than his mother had been to him and that wasn't fair.
