My youngest cub, who is described consistently as brilliant (that's the exact word) by his teachers and counselor has been slipping academically and lost interest completely. I took him to the doctor because he mentioned, and squinney and I noticed he seemed to need everything repeated to him and learned that his left ear drum is completely immobile and his right one practically so. the Doctor ststed he didn't see how Seth had been functioning at all. Fortunately this will be corrected with same day surgery at Rex. A pretty nice Christmas gift, getting your hearing back. I was also told that withdrawing and losing interest in schoolwork was THE textbook reaction to this kind of problem. I have contacted his counselor and teachers and they are going to give him an opportunity to make up all his incomplet first semester schoolwork. He seems very excited and motivated.
This is just a nice Christmas present for my boy and an anecdote I wanted to share before anyone starts piling on about me discussing my private life. And btw, he has BCBS and I've already writte a check for the copay so I guess that means he deserves the surgery right?
That's really good news, Bear. I know of what you speak. The eight year old, that we are raising, had similar symptoms and a specialist has now determined that it is a hearing problem. They are waiting until February to make a final analysis as to what to do.
I am glad that they found the problem and can make a relatively easy fix for Seth.
Merry Christmas to all the big and little bears.
This is great news - Merry Christmas to all of you.
Im glad it is something "simple" that can be repaired.
Merry Christmas.
Unconditional congratulations to both generations.
Yep, textbook.
What was causing the problem, do they know?
Will it be a 100% return to normal hearing?
Best wishes to all...

apparnetly it's just a very advanced kind of Otitis. He had tubes as a toddler and they're cleaning him out and putting more tubes in... a different kind I'm told because of hs age. They're also going to look for any other possible problems after getting him cleaned out and running clear... but hopefully that should be it. Supposedly if there are no other problems it will be a 100% return to normal hearing.
Good job getting it seen to so fast.
And yeah, that's a heckuva present.
Fluid in the middle ear, you mean?
That should be really easy to fix, yeah. Great!
Does he have colds a lot? Stuffy?
no he's pretty healthy....
Just musing on the cause. (Middle ear infections are usually because of persistent congestion/ colds.)
Anyway, sounds very promising, hope that the new tubes solve the problem and that's that.
Best to Seth and Bears of all sizes.
Oh...and Bless the Beagles, also!
I'll second what the bunny said!
How fortunate that it can be corrected.
Good news that it can be fixed, bear. Sucks that it's at Christmas time, though. Sending good thoughts for a successful procedure.
Good to hear it's all going to work out.
Ohhh, he has to go to the hospital at christmas time? That's no fun!
My fingers are crossed for him, and hopefully the nurses will pamper
him with lots of cookies.
All the best for Seth!

It truly is. Merry Christmas to the bears and beagles, and all other creatures great and small.
Great news for your boy and for you too, of course. I'm very happy to hear some good news :-D

I choose to consider this surgery a Christmas Blessing. thanks to everyone for their encouraging thoughts.
