Oh...no caribou, it's me, not you.

I slip myself into a mental coma this time of year.

Everything just slips past me.

I think it was yesterday, I was trying to remember for a minute if Christmas had already occured.

I'm thinking "Wait, wasn't xmas last week? no....that was Thanksgiving. Well, actually that was last month, but close enough. Ok, so when IS xmas? Oh! next, um, Tuesday? Ok, that means...uh....what does that mean?"

Today, I made a passing remark to someone in the ladies, I think it was "for some reason it feels like a Friday" she said "Oh, I know, it's always so stressful this time of year"

I'm thinking to myself "huh"?

I don't know what to say when people ask "Are you ready for xmas"?

I don't think you supposed to say yes. Are you?

I think I say "I guess so"

Wally asked me what I wanted for xmas, I said "put that fence up that we were looking at while at lowe's so dogs will stop stomping and shitting on my garden."

farging dogs.

It is nice to know that I am not the only person who feels this way.

Stress? During the holidays? WHY?

I dont run out and empty my bank account because " that is the christmas spirit"
I dont buy into the mindset of having the latest and greatest gadget.
In fact, my life is better with out gadgets.

I have people over to my home to eat and play board games.
OHHH yeah Smile

but there is no stress there. Just busy cooking and cleaning my small closet of a home for my friends.

We have a tree up in our home.
A plastic one my mom gave me.
On it hangs all of the little foam gingerbread houses jillian and I made one evening. If you look closely at them, I'm sure you can find smears of soy sauce and that white stuff may not be cotton, but old moldy rice from dinner that day....

I have two small gifts for her this year and the Mister is getting a double headed shower head. ( Did i say that right?) along with a nice fluffy bathrobe.

Why is picking out a small gift stressful?

Why do people make a realllllly long shopping list and include people they dont normally see/talk to/touch or have any contact with because they feel they should?

I dont get it.

Winter break is just that.. a break in your life to slow down and enjoy your family, have a few days off, and eat some nice warm food.
Add stress to that, and it isnt fun anymore..

my boss and I were talking about christmas this morning.

she said "tell me if you think this is weird. I'm going to ask my sons (both adults) and husband if next year, instead of exchanging gifts, we sponsor a family, give them a christmas."

I said I didn't think that was weird at all. I said "Remember that website I pointed out to you a couple of years ago? With the goats?"

It was one of the deals were you could give a family somewhere in the world a goat, chicken, cow....what have you.

Doing that makes it a real gift. A goat gives milk, hopefully baby goats, and, eventually meat and material for clothes. A chiken gives your children eggs to eat.

I think giving a gift should evoke in the recipiant the "basket of puppies or kittens response" in other words, pure delight.

For adults in nations like the US, Canada, and a lot of Europe, if an adult wants something, on the whole, they can go out and get it. Maybe not today, but you don't have to wait until christmas to receive an ipod, or some other electronic gizmo that's be neglected within months.

I got my neighbor, the same age as Bean, a barbie scooter, for like $20 from target. I can just see her racing up and down the sidewalk.

In too short a time, she may be incredibly jaded.

hehe....thinking of that cell phone commercial where the teenage girl got a pony for christmas....

does it bite?yes.

I get a little stressed out this time of year because my job gets a little hairy. This week, the week leading up to Christmas, calms right down so by Christmas I am fine again.

And we don't go anywhere on Christmas day. We do the fam thing on Christmas Eve and then Christmas day is lay around in underpants and enjoy each others company at home day.
