I was down at the feed mill with a few of the boys last week and old Charlie Jensen mentioned the fact that he bought an old toaster from that "slick French feller that's been hangin' round."
I spit at a passing rat and then asked Charlie, "That toaster work, Charlie?"
"He said it did."
"And you trusted him?"
"Yep. He seemed like a trustworthy sort. Why, Gus? Don't you trust him?"
"I have about as much trust in that guy as I do in the United States Government, Charlie. He's French, for god's sake. Jesus, how old are you? You haven't learned the basic premises of life by now?"
I started walking away, but then I turned around and yelled at Charlie, "Get rid of the toaster! It doesn't work!"
eh? Trust, and seize the day can be opposities...
