I just cut down a tree growing next to our shed that would have done damage if I didn't and it turns out that it was perfect for a Christmas tree.
I'm not doing garland this year, just tinsel, but it's been so long since I've done the tinsel that I forget if the tinsel goes before or after the ornaments, so I need help from the tinsel experts.
Oh no, the dreaded tinsel before-or-after controversy!
Prepare for a firestorm of acrimony.

Yes, lovely tree, Montana.
I like to put the tinsel on first, so you can see the ornaments better.
You could do both - tinsel first and last...

Oh, thank you all for your speedy responses and kind words and I think it sounds like Mac has a great idea there, so I'll do some before and some after :-D
I haven't had a real tree in over 15 years, so I'm all excited and it smells like heaven :-D

you should, of course, sandwich the ornaments by puting tinsel on first, than ornaments followed by more tinsel. Everyone knows that!

Well, you should have SAID it was German tinsel.
Montana is asking about Canadian tinsel.
Dys is talking about tin roofs.

Lights always go on first.
When I had a tree, I used to eschew tinsel, the better to display the ornaments.
Of course that was a long, long time ago....

Just finished doing the lights, so it's a good thing those go first because they're not coming off for another month.
Ok, lets see if I have it right now.
Next is tinsel, then ornaments, then more tinsel.
How am I doin?

That pic doesn't do a thing for the lights. I have those sets where there are like 8 different things you can make them do. I've had them for years and I love them.
Barely had enough. The tree is bigger than it looked outside.

If you use enough tinsel, no one will notice when the needles fall off and you can use the tree again next year.
