Today was a wonderful day.
It is mine and Mr. B's 18th anniversary.
I woke up this morning with Mr. B to my left, Biscuit the cat to my right and Mo laying in his own bed singing "Ring of Fire".
Does life get more lovely than that?
We've gone from White Zombie's "More Human than Human" to Johnny Cash in a flash.
True to form of kids never liking the music their parents like I've gone from learning about metal to needing to learn about country because Mo is digging on "that hillbilly" music right now.
Soooo..... seeing as how I could maybe come up with some rockabilly but not really any hillbilly sounds.....
If Mo's grooving to Johnny Cash who else might he like?
Thanks!
There is an album called Country Music For City Folk, by Jerry Lee Lewis that he might like. It's one of Jerry's best efforts. He does Ring of Fire, Funny How Time Slips Away, Detroit City, North to Alaska, Seasons of My Heart, King of the Road, and a few others I can't recall.
He also might "dig" Roger Miller.
Ain't got no pool, no pets
Ain't got no cigarettes
8 hours of pushing broom
blahblahblah blah bedrooms
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road.
OH MY GOD I loved that song when I was a kid.
That and Tom Jones' "What's new pussycat"
Okay then.
Thanks for the suggestions, edgar!
Roger Miller was somewhat of a genius.
Just a few that he might like...my kids love all these...which tickles the hell out of me.
Fats Domino - Blue Monday
Gene Vincent - Be Bop A Lula
Ray Charles - Night Time Is The Right Time
Buddy Holly - Peggy Sue
Jerry Lee - Crazy Arms
and many more...Dwight Yoakam has several rockabilly songs out too.
Might like that old timey stuff from a certain movie I love.*
As in -- "I am a Man of Constant Sorrow" by the Soggy Bottom Boys.
*I'm speaking of the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Oh weird, sozlet loves Johnny Cash!
There's a local band that does some Johnny Cash covers and she's always the only kid singing along to "Folsom Prison Blues."
I just asked her for other recommendations (she was thrilled that Mo likes Johnny Cash) (she knows who Mo is, I ask her about Mo stuff a lot), and she said earnestly, "Well, the Beatles are really good..."
She also recommends Paul Simon.
They don't seem to have a lot in common to me, but maybe the songwriting/ storytelling aspect?
Happy anniversary!
My own knowledge of bluegrass is extremely limited, but I liked Hot Rize a lot.

Their song "Ain't Going to Work Tomorrow" goes through my head at regular intervals.
Happy anniversary! Glad to hear that life is good.
I am absolutly convinced Mo will enjoy
Bill the cat: John Williamson.

Its possible Chai's ferral is really Bill the Cat.
Edit: Possibly also this one
Old man Emu

He might like
Sleepy Labeef and from my younger days, I used to love
Poco
just a thought but Jim Croce?
Yeah Poco and Riders of the Purple Sage.
The sound sucks in the link i posted above.
It'll shine when it shines
Thats a better example of their work.
Once again I find myself wishing for a sound card in my computer. We're getting ready to replace it and the new one will definately have a card so I'll have to wait to listen in.
I love rockabilly and western swing but don't know much about just plain, old time country music.
I do have the soundtrack to "O Brother..." but Mo has never shown a liking to it. Maybe it's time to try again!
That's cool that sozlet likes Johnny Cash. I have a great-niece who is the same age category and she likes Johnny Cash too - much to her parent's dismay.
Thank you all for the great suggestions! I'll be sure to check them all out.
