Halloween song(s)

Reply Fri 12 Oct, 2007 05:22 am
Does anybody know the tune corresponding to these lyrics:

Witches, witches, skeletons and bats,
Scary ghosts and big black cats.
Whooo! Whooo! What a fright !
It's scary, scary on Hallowe'en night !

And I'd also like to find any other Halloween song for children.
Thanks.

I only know the classic Monster Mash:

Bobby "Boris" Pickett

Monster Mash Lyrics

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise

He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

They did the mash
They did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the monster mash

The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

They played the mash
They played the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
They played the mash
They played the monster mash

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash
The monster mash
And it's a graveyard smash
It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you

Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
The monster mash
And do my graveyard smash
Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash

How about a Seaglass original?

I was a little pumpkin
My name was Tate
Someone carved me a little face
And placed me on the gate

Someone came along
And I went boom
From what I understand
I'll be a pumpkin pie soon.

And the witch keeps circling the moon
circling the the moon,
circling the moon.

I wrote this for my paraplegic granddaughter.

I am going to illustrate it. Small things to keep her amused.

Hey, R.E. Sorry that I cannot provide you with the melody to your song, but there are plenty of kids' Halloween tunes. Here's one that I liked when I was a kid

Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins
sitting on a gate.
The first one said,
"Oh my it's getting late."
The second one said,
"There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "I don't care." The fourth one said,
"Let's run and run and run!"

The fifth one said,
"It's Halloween fun!"
Then "Oooooo" went the wind and out went the lights, and the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Thanks a lot! This all sounds fun! Very Happy
But my biggest problem is that, as I'm not from a country that traditionnally celebrates halloween, I don't know any halloween tune. Do you have any melody going with those lyrics? Sad

The music for Monster Mash can probably be found on line. You might have to just make up melody for the others. Halloween is not known to have many songs associated with it, unlike Christmas. Most Halloween events will have background music of soundtracks from horror movies like Dracula or The Mummy. Not really kid stuff. You can also use funeral music played on a church organ. There are traditional party things like dunking for apples, making gross looking cakes (gummy worms coming out of crumbled chocolate, candy that looks like eyeballs etc) or making a haunted house room that the kids have to go into with the purpose of scaring them. Music is just not a big part of the holiday.

R.E. do you mean there is someone here from France besides Francis?

If you know anything about the piano, I could probably help with the melody line to some songs.

Laughing Yes, I'm from France too ^^ (And I'm completely stuck at home because of a major strike today! Yay!)
I also play the piano, so I can read music or anything that looks like it. (Except I never learned the anglo-saxon system of letters, but I could translate them if necessary...)
Thank you for your explanations Green Witch. Halloween has arrived in France a few years ago, but hasn't met a great success Sad The kids are sometimes quite rude when asking for candies, missing the "spirit" of Halloween (or so it seems), and their parents see Halloween from a bad eye Sad
The only melody I've found is a "Halloweenization" of "wheels in the bus" (except that the wheels are replaced by ghosts going boo, cats going meow, etc.), so anything else would be good Very Happy
Thanks.

I noticed that R.E. and also that someone is getting a divorce. Razz

Well, forget the piano for a moment, here is one that you will definitely know, Frenchy.

Ghosts and goblins
Ghosts and goblins

Witches, too
Witches, too

All out trick-or-treatin'
All out trick-or-treatin'

Can't scare you
Can't Scare you

sung to the tune of Frere Jacques

If you do want the melody line to "tis the night of halloween", it's very simple and I shall provide it upon request

Laughing I was wondering how this "information" was treated in the rest of the world!

Thanks for the "frère Jacques" Halloween song! At least I'll be able to sing this one!
Actually, I want everything you got, so tell me more about "tis the night of halloween", please. Very Happy

Ok, Radical Edward, I'll try. Bear in mind that the "ew"'s are onomatopoeias. (sound words)

The little song is in the key of C minor, and it's perfect for children, especially the last word which may give them a brief moment of fright.(which they love, of course)

Words first, then the melody line.

ew ew ew ew ew ew ew
Tis the night of halloween

ew ew ew ew ew ew ew
Oh, such funny things are seen

ew, ew, ew
ew, ew, ew

BOO!

Starts out in the bass clef (G below middle C)
G B (natural here after) C D E F E
A E D C B C B

G B C D E F E
A E(natural) D C B C A

G B G
G B G
A(treble clef, the one above middle C)

Hope that's it!

Hyde, Hyde.

Someone is spending my money for me,
The money I earn I never see,
In all things I do he interferes,
All I know is trouble as soon as he appears.

Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Hyde.

When I drink my potion my character changes,
My whole mind and body rearranges,
This strange transformation takes place in me,
Instead of myself everybody can see...

Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Hyde.

Whenever you're with me make sure it's still me,
I've got to the stage I can't tell which I'll be,
The loveable fellow who'll buy you a drink,
Then when he's drunk his he'll change in a wink into...

Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Mister Hyde, Hyde.

My daughter came home singing this one today:

Quote:
THE THIRTEEN DAYS OF HALLOWEEN
by Carol Greene

On the first day of Halloween
my good friend gave to me
a vulture in a dead tree.

On the second day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the third day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the fourth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
four giggling ghosts,
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the fifth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts,
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the sixth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts,
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the seventh day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the eighth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me
eight brooms a-flying,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts,
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the ninth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
nine wizards whizzing,
eight brooms a-flying,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts
three fat toads, two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the tenth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
ten goblins gobbling,
nine wizards whizzing,
eight brooms a-flying,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the eleventh day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
eleven bats a-swooping,
ten goblins gobbling,
nine wizards whizzing,
eight brooms a-flying,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the twelfth day of Halloween,
my good friend gave to me,
twelve cauldrons bubbling,
eleven bats a-swooping,
ten goblins gobbling,
nine wizards whizzing,
eight brooms a-flying,
seven spiders creeping,
six owls a-screeching,
five cooked worms,
four giggling ghosts
three fat toads,
two hissing cats,
and a vulture in a dead tree.

On the thirteenth day of Halloween,
I invited my good friend to lunch.

Yes I was, thanks! (And sorry for not answering sooner). I wasn't quite sure about the rythm though... But I think it sounds ok.
Thanks everybody! You lyrics are great! Very Happy
