I can't think of any females that improved things, either.

Anybody catch the Family Jewels episodes where Gene and Shannon got facelifts?

He ended up looking exactly the same... She just ended up looking stiff.

Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of female celebrities that have had it done gradually and we don't even notice. A little tightening here, a tuck there.
(I'm not talking about the botox babes who can't smile or show emotion.)
But the men seem to want a miracle in one surgery and they end up hideous.

Wayne Newton is another one.

DrewDad - I saw Gene Simmons, and I think maybe he did it the right way! He doesn't look any different, but he does look somewhat better.

Same with Al Pacino. His eyes are a little bit rounder but he looks pretty good. In "The First Wives Club" Goldie Hawn called it "freshening". Not a full out deal but just a little something here and there.

The only really good plastic surgery I've ever seen is, believe it or not, on this lady:

Yes, that's really Roseanne Barr and it's -- so far as I can tell -- from this year. She was born in 1952. Note: she does not look 20. She looks maybe 35 or 40 and I think that's the ticket -- limiting how far you want to go and accepting that you're not going to be 20 any more.

Hey! She does look nice in that photo.

And since she isn't talking, I can actually see how nice her eyes really are.

There is a picture of Ralph Lauren in today's NYT magazine -- he doesn't look a day older than in the photo of him in 1979, and a bit younger than he did in 1989. Possible he just aged well though (he seemed to go prematurely grey, as he was only 39 in the first picture).

Found the pics.

Now:

1979:

1989:

(There seem to be fewer eye crinkles in the first [2007] than in the last [1989]. He's 67.)

A lot of these guys look like clowns. Sly Stallone, John Travolta, Wayne Newton. Saw a "Cribs" episode with Newton. He can't help but constantly look surprised.

o.K. I agree that SOMETIMES (rarely) cosmetic surgery can have positive results. But that's only when the person is making small improvements, not when he or she is trying to regain the look of youth. Wayne Newton and Shelly Long are examples of the disastrous attempt to look younger than one is. Long can barely blink her eyes without it looking like a conscious effort.

And what's wrong with the look of age? Eva Marie Saint is very wrinkled but as far as I'm concerned she looks great, And there is no greater turn off for me that those stiff inorganic globes resulting from breast implant surgery. Breasts are best with some sag if you ask me; they look real and feminine.

John Travolta got cosmetic surgery? I thought he just gained weight. I'm more bothered by his jets while talking about alternative fuel and global warming than whatever the heck he looks like.

I don't think Travolta had anything done. He's just gained/lost weight from various roles. He looks damned good for 53.
Don't look at the pics from Hairspray for examples though....lol.

As far as Ralph Lauren, that current pic looks like 50% airbrushing, 40% shadows, and possibly the remaining 10% actually Ralphie himself.

Personally, I've had extensive plastic alterations and I'm a better man for it. I don't look a day over 67.

Far more important than the look of youth is one's level of energy and strength. I can outwork and outrun a man twice my age.

I had plastic done on my brain. Afraid it was stretched over-tight.

Her neon mouth with the blinking soft smile
Is nothing but an electric sign
You could say she has an individual style
She's part of a colorful time

Super-sealed lady, chrome-color clothes
You wear 'cause you have no other
But I suppose no one knows
You're my plastic fantastic lover

Your rattlin' cough never shuts off
Is nothin' but a used machine
Your aluminum finish, slightly diminished
Is the best I ever have seen

Cosmetic baby plugged into me
And never ever find another
And I realize no one's wise
To my plastic fantastic lover

The electrical dust is starting to rust
Her trapezoid thermometer taste
All the red tape is mechanical rape
Of the TV program waste

Data control and IBM
Science is mankind's brother
But all I see is drainin' me
On my plastic fantastic lover

You can polish your face as much as you like, but the truth is never more stark than when your balls are hanging down one pant leg all the way to your ankles.
