An Ant in the Bathroom

Reply Fri 27 Jul, 2007 08:37 pm
I flicked on the light switch as I walked into my bathroom and a large black ant which had been foraging for tooth paste residue, presumably, on my sink, saw me enter and took off running for his life. He tore across the top of the sink, ran under the faucet, and raced around the corner of the soap dish.

Seconds after he disappeared I continued to stare at the last spot I had seen him. He didn't resurface on the other side so I knew he was still behind that damned soap dish.

I waited.

All of a sudden his head sticks around the corner of the dish, much like a cowboy in a western. He sees me and ducks back, as if I had a clear shot at him or something.

It was really funny-looking. Have you ever had an insect take a peek at you from behind some object?

Worker ants are females.

It wasn't a worker. And I clearly saw his penis dragging across the porcelain surface.

I left the spelling alone. You did mean portentous, didn't you?

Should I correct the spelling, or would that lose the integrity of the moment?

You're welcome.

A lone cockroach is more portentious.

That's nothing, Gus. I've been ripping up a wild field of plants that have a mat of roots in which many insects live. I swear I've had crazed daddy longlegs dropping from the shruberies to get me and pill bugs pointing ak47s at me from under the sod clods.

Maybe so, but I'm not wrong very often.
