Takin' Care of Business

You wake up every morning from the alarm clocks warning,
And take the 8:15 to the city.
There's a whistle up above and people pushing people shoving,
And girls, who try to look pretty.
And if your trains on time, you can get to work by 9.
And start your slaving job and get your pay.
If you ever get annoyed, look at me I'm self employed,
I love to work at nothing all day. And I'll be...

Taking care of buisness, every day.
Taking care of buisness, every way.
I've been taking care fo buisness, it's all mine.
Taking care of buisness, and working over time, work out.

It's as easy as fishin', you can be a musican.
If you can make sounds that are mellow.
Get a second hand guitar, chances are you'll go far,
If you hangin out with the right bunch of fellows.
People will see you having fun, just lying in the sun.
Tell them that you like it this way.
It's the work that we avoid, and we're all self employed,
We love to work at nothing all day. And I'll be...

Taking care of buisness, every day.
Taking care of buisness, every way.
I've been taking care fo buisness, it's all mine.
Taking care of buisness, and working over time, work out.

Take good care of my buisness, every day, while I'm away.

for some reason this song always reminds me of the last trip to the cottage at the end of summer

This Beat Goes On / Switchin' To Glide

Hey Judy
Get Trudy
You said to call you up and I was feelin' moody
Hey little Donna
Ooh, still wanna?
You said to call you up if I was in Toronto

I got lots of friends that I can ding at any time
We'll mobilise some laughs with just one call
Like a bunch of lunatics we'll act 'til way past dawn
Soon we'll be rockin', 'til my strength is gone
Yeah this beat goes on
And on, and on, and on

Hey Lady
Ooh, you crazy
Me and Zero, request you in the Mercedes
And then we'll ride
So zoomy inside
The sky's the limit, this time I'm switchin' to glide

I don't give a hoot about what people have to say
I'm laughin' as I'm analysed
Lunatics Anonymous, that's where I belong
Sure, because I am one, 'til my strength is gone
Yeah this beat goes on
This beat goes on
This beat goes on
This beat goes on
This beat goes on and on
On and on
On and on
On and on
This beat goes....!

Nothin' matters but the weekend
From a Tuesday point of view
Like the kettle in the kitchen
I feel the steam begin to brew

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

Energy can be directed
I'm turning it up I'm turning it down
Even love can be affected
Harmonies will sweeter sound

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

Everybody gets the no, nos
Hear it ringing in their ears
Lots of ways that you can go, go!
Look around, no disappears

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

RUNNING ON EMPTY
Jackson Browne

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it with what you do to survive
In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes I see them running too

Running on - running on empty
Running on - running blind
Running on - running into the sun
But I'm running behind

Honey you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around but I'm running behind
You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
Running into the sun but I'm running behind

Here's one of my favorite driving songs:

AC/DC HIGHWAY TO HELL lyrics

Yeh, living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow us down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Ohh Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)

I'm on the highway to hell

And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell

Cars
Gary Numan

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars

Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for nights
In cars

Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please?
If I open my door
In cars

Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars

I'm a bit warped...so none of those would make my daily 2 hour commute with me...

What Doesn't Die
First in last out overthrown
It's been picked clean to the bone
And so hard to remember things
Like when we used to kill our kings
Crusading for hypocrisy
Under our nose the holy bleed
Crumbling under it's own weight
Apologies if you relate
'cause
You cannot kill
What doesn't die
Live up to my promise
My full potential realized
Death lives right inside your pocket
Take him out and have a laugh
Go and piss your life away
Another ugly waste of clay
And up above there's no one home
Why don't you answer your phone?
Reminding me to learn that poem
First in last out overthrown
Because
A stream of consciousness flows into a river of blood
Stem this tide of violence
As it rises like a flood

now that song is more like it.....

Here's another favorite of mine...im usually doing about 90 to this song....

Propaganda death ensemble
Burial to be
Corpses rotting through the night
In blood laced misery
Scorched earth the policy
The reason for the seige
The pendulum exchange the blade
for strafing air blood raid

Infiltration push reserves
Encircle the front llines
Supreme art of strategy
Playing on the minds
Bombard till submission
Take all to their graves
Indication of triumph
The number that are dead

Sport the war, war support
The sport is war, total war
When victory's a massacre
The final swing is not a drill
It's how many people I can kill

Be dead friend from above
When darkness falls
Descend onto my sights
Your fallen walls
Spearhead break through the lines
Flanked all around
Soldiers of attrition
Forward their ground
Strategy prophetic age
Old in its time
Flowing veins run on through
Deep in the Rhine
Center of the web
All battles scored
What is our war crimes
Era forever more
War

Propaganda war ensemble
Burial to be
Bones shining bt the night
In blood laced misery
Campaign of elimination
Twisted psychology
When victory is to survive
And death is defeat

Sport the war, war support
The sport is war, total war
When this end is a slaughter
The final swing is not a drill
It's how many people I can kill

I heard this song tonight when I was running errands. It's a good song to sing along with while driving....

Life Is A Highway

Tom Cochrane

Life’s like a road that you travel on
When there’s one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There’s a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won’t haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore

We won’t hesitate
Break down the garden gate
There’s not much left for today

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It’s in my blood and it’s all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber pass to Vancouver’s lights
Knock me down get back up again
You’re in my blood I’m not a lonely man

There’s no load I can’t hold
A road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Just tell ’em we’re survivors

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long (gimme gimme gimme gimme, yeah)
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long

There was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once but now
We look it in the eye, oh

Ooooooh…

There ain’t no load I can’t hold
Road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Tell ’em we’re survivors

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long (yeah yeah yeah, yeah)
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long (yeah) (ah gimme gimme gimme gimme, yeah)

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long (ah gimme gimme gimme gimme, yeah)

Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long (yeah yeah yeah, yeah)
If you’re going my way
I want to drive it all night long (ah gimme gimme gimme gimme, yeah)

Folks, the Brit is not here. He is some other place. Miss him, but I think I hear his car. It's a T-Bird with a neat chic lying across the fender.

That's one of my favorites, doglover. I can't help myself...when it comes on the radio, I just HAFTA roll down the windows, open the sunroof, and turn up the volume all the way! (Nearly broke the steering wheel clapping on it last time...)

Life is a hi-ighway...
I'm gonna ri-ide it all night long....

I think that wherever he is, oldandknew would be delighted at how many folks have seized upon this thread and taken it to a pinnacle.

Goodnight, John Oak, but never goodbye

As a change of pace from Chuck Berry, here's a more obscure oldie: Race With the Devil, by Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps.

Well I've led an evil life, so they say
But I'll outrun the devil on judgement day, I said
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line, oh yeah

Well me and the devil, at a stop light
He started rollin', I was out of sight, I said
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line

Well, goin' pretty fast, looked behind
A-hear come the the devil doin' ninety-nine, I said
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line

Well thought I was smart, the race was won
A-hear come the devil doin' a-hundred and one
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line

Well, goin' pretty fast, looked behind
A-hear come the the devil doin' ninety-nine, I said
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line

Well I've led an evil life, so they say
But I'll hide from the devil on judgement day, I said
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move, hot-rod, move man
Move hot-rod, move me on down the the line.

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm drivin' by your house
Though I know you're not at home

But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don't understand what happened to our love
But babe, I'm gonna get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of

I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
I see you walkin' real slow and you're smilin' at everyone
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Out on the road today, I saw a DEADHEAD sticker on a Cadillac
A little voice Inside my head said, "Don't look back. You can never look back."
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but-

And from Eddie Rabbitt

Drivin' My Life Away
Eddie Rabbitt

Well, the midnight headlight
Find you on a rainy night
Steep grade up ahead
Slow me down makin' no time
I gotta keep rollin'
Those windshield wipers
Slappin' out a tempo
Keepin' perfect rhythm
With the song on the radio
Gotta keep rollin'

Oooooooh, I'm driving my life away
Lookin' for a better way, for me
Oooooooh, I'm driving my life away
Lookin' for a sunny day

Well the truck stop cutie
Comin' on to me
Tried to talk me into a ride
Said I wouldnt be sorry
But she was just a baby
Ah, waitress pour me another cup of coffee
Pop me down jack me up
Shoot me out flyin' down the highway
Lookin' for the morning
