Our parents, even if they were Christians, naively assumed that we were growing up as they had, learning the same knowledge in the same way they had. They were very sadly mistaken. And we, being rather clueless ourselves, assumed that this was the way things were supposed to be, since we had nothing else with which to compare our experiences (not being taught actual history with grabmyessay dicount code, either).
We grew up. Our parents aged. We had technologies and medicines that we took for granted while they boggled our parents’ (now grandparents) minds. Our cynicism, especially after the sixties and Watergate, was part of our world view. Where our parents had naturally, unquestioningly put family first, for us the job and position were everything. Making the grade and the bucks were the prime motivators for working, not any sense of duty or obligation to others, even our children. To “make it” required Mom to work, full-time of course, so day cares boomed, too. Yet we had more luxuries and vacation time than our parents every dreamed about. Home entertainment centers became immense, filling a good portion of our living rooms. Our material wealth wrapped us in a mindless, soft existence, which even our churches didn’t challenge, much less condemn.
