College student out of Dallas trying to define the world, while still knowing that it is, for the most part, undefinable. I try to read at least one good, lengthy book every two weeks, but have problems finding the time. I'm a Liberal Democrat, but not so much that I can't see it when Bush makes a good point or a strong showing. I was formerly an atheist, but due to a philosophical debate from 11 at night to 4 in the morning, now consider myself an agnostic, though my definition of 'God' is markedly different than most people's. I have a vested interest in psychology and how people become who they are, especially in the 'big picture' sense. I am also interested in comparative religion and science, and consider it my life's goal to unite the two into a coherent, all-encompassing philosophy.

Thu 21 Sep, 2006 12:11 pm - Scott Adams (the writer of Dilbert) once made this interesting point that if all organisms are comprised of smaller parts, then the same must be true for God, and that maybe God is the sum total of... (view)
Fri 8 Sep, 2006 08:11 pm - Let's cover the bases. If you believe in God, then you think he's there above you, watching the ballet he wrote eons ago play out, and every scene has a purpose, and when you exit... (view)

Thu 6 Oct, 2005 12:35 pm - [quote]Society's ethics may be different but is it not possible, and probable, that certain ethical belief systems are more valid than others? If a moral belief is invalid, how does it hold... (view)
Sun 2 Oct, 2005 04:13 pm - Ray: Okay, I think I understand your point, now. However, I still disagree with it. Slaveowners held the view that the africans were inferior to themselves, so owning slaves and not wanting to... (view)
Sat 1 Oct, 2005 03:17 pm - Ray: Your example is still not making sense to me. You've presented a hypothetical slave who both thinks slavery is wrong and yet...doesn't? This person is deeply disturbed.... (view)
Thu 29 Sep, 2005 10:36 pm - Ray said: [quote]What is morality? If it is what one perceives of what is right and wrong, then it does differ between people, and that is because someone's understanding can be mistaken... (view)
Wed 28 Sep, 2005 01:31 pm - Ray: I disagree with the statement that it's better to cling until proven completely wrong. While you certainly shouldn't change positions every time you have a conversation, you should... (view)
Tue 27 Sep, 2005 08:01 pm - I've been away from the site for some time wrestling with my sneaking suspicion that no matter how hard I(and, by extension, everyone else) try, we will not ever be able to change... (view)
