The debate on banning Kratom still continues. Although the plant had been used by several natives in Asia for centuries, the growing production and consumers of Kratom in the United States are now at risk of being eliminated from DEA's (Drug Enforcement Administration) approved herbal medicines. According to the agency, the said herbal medicine has a high potential for drug abuse and does not qualify to have a medical use. Several scientists, on the other hand, had rallied and are pushing the Congress to reverse the agency's decision of banning the herb because it will affect most patients who are medically dependent on the drug and also can cripple most scientists' advances in their medical research. Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa is a tropical evergreen tree that is commonly found in most parts of Southeast Asia, namely the Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and much other more. The natives had been using the plant for several years as an
organic pain reliever for chronic to mild pains. Also, Kratom leaves are used to treat diarrhea, treatment for opiate addiction, energy and immune system booster, and many other more.
According to several institutions that produce Kratom products, with the right and proper dosage of Kratom, no one is at threat for drug dependency or other health risks, which is by far similar to other medicines.
