Last Sunday I was on the shore of Lake Michigan working on a buddy's cottage. I took a lunch break and sat out in the sun for about an hour with my shirt off, and I got frickin' fried. Never do I remember getting so burned so quickly. In fact, now, five days later, it's still red, and peeling.

I know a couple meds I take for chol/bp can cause sun sensitivity, but I've been taking them for years, never had this happen before.

What's doubly strange is that the day before, I worked in the yard at home all day, and didn't get burned at all...

Cloudy days can be deceiving; exposure can often result in a far worse burn.

I hear ya re the sunburn; we were in Cape Cod in May and my arms got it.

I used to go to Florida every spring break (when I was a kid, my grandma lived there) and I'd inevitably get burned. (Not looking forward to the effects of that, so far so good.) Aloe vera helped the most to relive the burn and minimize peeling.

The time of day can make a huge difference when it comes to burning. As in, if you were sitting in the sun from noon to one, you get way more burned than if you were working in the yard from 9 AM to 10 AM (or 3 PM to 4 PM, or whatever non-midday hours you worked).

Plus if you're working you're moving, creating your own shade, exposing different surfaces -- if you're just sitting there, you get baked but good.

Hope you feel better soon... burns suck.

Oh, you said you worked in the yard all day... dunno. Maybe some shade, maybe you were wearing a shirt, maybe just the different surfaces thing.

Tea tree works well also. However, the side effect is that you grow breasts.

Slip slop slap

Slip on a shirt, slop on suncreen, and slap on a hat.

Global warming and the hole in the ozone layer at a personal level.

We are very near the summer solstice. The sun is quite potent now!

It finally got better - but it peeled, over the weekend, which I spent once again at the lake. I made sure to use sunscreen, didn't get so fried this time. That was truly strange - almost like I caught some weird UV event.

Sorry, I'm still stuck on the mental image of you shirtless and sweaty in the sun on the banks of Lake Michigan.

What was the question??

Ahem. I'm not quite sure how to respond. Shocked Embarrassed

A couple possible ways:

1. Yes, it is a beautiful lake view.

2. That really is a gun in my pocket and yes I'm glad to see you!

1. I'll bet it is a beautiful lake view!

2. But it doesn't look like a gun!
