Your preference? If not in the poll, please post.
I had more but A2K only allows that many poll options.
Jet Blue reminds me of People's Express (remember them?)
They're cheap and efficient until the weather changes. A few month
ago, Jet Blue passengers got stranded all over the US due to the
weather condition. Jet Blue just cancelled their flights, and passengers
had to find transportation elsewhere. I'm a bit reluctant to try them.
To me, there is no "best" as they all lack something nowadays,
but Lufthansa is not bad, Delta neither, and American too. I also
like British Airways, unfortunately Heathrow airport is chaotic, and
therefore I try to avoid BA.
CJ- Quite possibly, my experience with Jet Blue is positive due to the fact that I usually do my travelling in the summer!
I've had a series of really really good experiences with JetBlue over the past 3 years. No winter flights though, but I don't like any airline in winter.
I prefer Air Canada to American - mostly because they always have lots of bottled water to hand out, and that's a biggie for me.
I've heard great things about SouthWest, but I'm not sure I'll ever have a reason to try them, unless they expand their territory.
Not a fan of most of the European airlines other than KLM. Dunno why. Well, I do know, but it's got nothing to do with the technical flight experience - I generally didn't like European flight staff - maybe because I could eavesdrop on too many of them.
I've had no trouble with American, and once, long ago, really appreciated them for unloading the passengers with connecting flights first. I suppose that was in the eighties.
I've hated United with a venomous passion, having flown United in California multilples of times. The crowning event was when I somehow snagged a very back of the plane seat, and the attendents were loudly going on about their love lives behind me for the entire flight (and would not accept wishes they'd be quieter) and I couldn't hear the announcements, including of gates to connect at. Sublimely stupid, especially whenever flying in and out of SFO.
I've never flown Southwest, have heard good stuff. Used to love PSA.
I think Continental was the airline that kept my baggage at an intermediate stop, because I carried an electric eraser (aka potential bomb, I suppose), but not sure. Shouldn't indict them for that, but Grrrrr.
British Air, fine, except for Heathrow, where I sneeze the entire time of the stopover.
Alitalia, I know it's not well regarded, but I had a flight from Milan to Rome on a small Alitalia jet, very pleasant, fantastic coffee, much needed at the time.
Pan Am deserved to die...
Mexicana, they used to pour Champagne back then... great fun.
Aeronaves - the stewardesses, as they were called then, held their rosaries and one fellow kissed the tarmac when the plane finally landed in Tijuana.
I forget the name of the airline that flew us from Guatemala City to Tikal. Non pressurized cabin... Not complaining, actually. Neat experience.
And the airline that brought us to Guatemala City in the first place... lined up crashed planes to the side of the runway.
The chatty do nothing "flight attendants", usually female, have been a scourge to travelers for years. I love a gay flight crew.
Some of my best friends have been flight attendants, for Pan Am and United, and another more recent friend for a western US airline. They are all sane. Those two on that United Flight were impediments to safe flight, or at least to efficient passage from plane to plane. I think they even jabbered during all the safety tip bit...
I find the chatty behind the curtain flight attendants to be derelict in their duty. But, I could be wrong.
I currently have about 120,000 ff miles on American that they almost never let me use. That and the fact that my 5'11' frame doesn't fit in their coach seats doesn't bring them high marks.
I like Continental for the fact they fly the smaller regional jets on fairly long legs, like west Michigan to Houston. The big jets take too long to load and unload, and actually have less room/person.
Midwest Express will never forget the day they packed our cat, Lou, into the luggage compartment of a puddle jumper, and he decided to verbally attack the passengers for an hour.
I like the club seating on Southwest where a family can sit facing each other, and I still enjoy their humor left over from the PSA days.
The very best service has Singapore Airlines, and Korean Airlines too.
As for inches between seats, look here for some info

we don't fly much , so my comments are not exhaustive .
we liked KLM and WARDAIR (a canadian charter line) , they had lots of leg-room , frseh food (KLM would serve a HOT breakfast AND champagne in those days ) . on wardair we met max ward , the owner and CEO , who would show up unannouced and fly steerage to check things out !
flew air canada non-stop from toronto to santiago de chile last year , a little cramped but pleasent service .
flew nort-west and continental : CRAPPY !
even though we were prepared to pay $ 5 for a sandwich , they didn't even have one !
on the flight back from san diego we bought a sandwich at the airport - but doubt we would be able to bring it aboard now .
american airlines former president interviewed by MSNBC :
we are saving money by taking less water onboard and have cut out magazines !!!
