I propose a Q&A forum in which those with questions will find those with answers!
My questions for today are:
What is Senator Jay Rockefeller's reputation?
How much of a tomato's nutrition is in its skin?
Got answers?
Tomatoes are high in potassium and vitamins A and C, and are cholesterol-free. In fact, recent scientific studies(3) indicate that eating cooked tomatoes reduces one's likelihood of suffering from cholesterol-related heart problems and digestive-tract cancers. Why cooked tomatoes? Cooking tomatoes releases lycopene, a strong antioxidant, from the skin of the tomato.
is that some of what you're interested in?
its thought by many that the tomato as actually the fruit forbidden to be eaten in the garden of eden rather than the apple, it was also thought to be poisonous by most of europe until the 17th century.

Are we talking about the endogenous nutrition of the tomato or are we talking about the nutrient value supplied by the tomato to the human consumer?
The skin of the tomato contains a high concentration of fiber, which is important to maintaining a healthy colon. Vitamins, sugars, lipids, etc of the tomato are enclosed within the skin. I suspect that the tomato contains very little protein.
re married to Liz, are you thinking of Sen John Warner?

I thought we were already doin' that. Silly me!
Hi, Jespah -- I couldn't find a forum for random "silly" questions. Is there one?! Just didn't feel I could throw the tomato question into the Politics Forum where I usually hang out. Or Books, for that matter..
Thank you, thank you for the answers on tomato skins. When I lived in Spain, we didn't do that fancy thing of skinning tomatoes before making gazpacho. So I didn't yesterday and then wondered whether, if I got a complaint (seldom! gazpacho is So-o-o good) I could say something like (thank you, Sweet!), I don't want to deprive you of your lycopene!!
As for Jay Rockefeller, he married Sharon Percy, the senator's daughter. She has been a force behind setting up national crafts organizations (and other art stuff) aimed at providing small industries for rural areas (like WVa). I'm just curious about his general reputation as a personality and effectiveness as a senator.
John Warner is known as "the dumbest man in the Senate." When he was married to Liz, he bought one of my paintings as a gift for her. When you put the two facts together, you come up with something which I never particularly cared for!!
You get a Condi Rice smile, New Haven!
