The landscaper works one property with a thief or two on it. Recently, while working there, things have gone missing from his trailer, cans of gasoline in particular. He devised a plan I'm not sure I altogether agree with. He put a little gas in a can and filled it up with water. Then he left it on the trailer to get stolen, as it did. When he comes next week, there may be a follow up. Maybe the thief will have learned his lesson, maybe he will take it a step further in some way . . .
I think it all depends on how many "volunteer" gas stations are on the thief's appointed rounds.
Cleverly setting himself up for retaliation.
Sugar water would be better.

Aha Drew dad, you read my mind, that's what I was gonna say.
We're devious bastards, aren't we?
Well, if you're going to sabotage someone, do it right.
I like it....but he is definitely setting himself up for retaliation.
a camcorder would be less fun but more practical
It looks more like a sneak thief than a gangbanger. Suger water is good.
