Our main grocery is doing a survey and the cashier last night said they'd recieved a major talking to and asked us to complete the online survey...

So I'm looking at the rules so I know what I have to do to claim the $1000 that is surely coming my way ( Rolling Eyes ) and I see this: (I bolded what I want you to see)

Quote:
THE DRAWS

One (1) random draw for $1,000, £1,000 or 1,000 Euros per contest will be held at the office of the Sponsor in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada at 2PM ET (GMT -5 hours) on the tenth (10th) business day following the last day of the month in which each contest closing date falls. If a potential winner is a Canadian resident, such person must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question prior to awarding of prize. If a selected entrant chooses not to accept the prize, the prize will be deemed to be forfeited and no substitution or other compensation will be awarded.

The selected entrant(s) will be contacted by telephone or email, and must sign and return (within 14 days ... Blah blah blah

What is THAT about?

In Canada you're not allowed to just get a prize - you have to 'deserve' it - so skill-testing questions are on everything - including Timmy's coffee cups ... if you want to redeem that free cup of coffee you won.

I think it's part of the old-school Methodist mentality that still mmmmm is around.

So what if you can't answer the question? Do you really not get the free cup of coffee?

Really.

Of course they make the skill-testing question REALLY easy for most things.

That's kind of funny. You'd think something like that would have been rescinded from the laws long ago.

It's a new show that came on after American Idol this week, TTH. It's called "Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader." It's hosted by Jeff Foxworthy and the questions are soooo easy you have to wonder why a lawyer is having to think about the answer.

Same general idea... It seemed to me the Canadian government was playing this "Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" game by making Canadians answer a math question in order to be entitled to a prize they have already won.

I can remember back in the '60s, in Canada, when we didn't have any lotteries. the only one that was "available" was the Irish Sweepstakes, and it was supposed to be illegal to buy them.

Of course, everybody looked the other way.

I doubt that since a lot of 5th graders and younger can be quite clever.

I don't know, either, Letty. If we were Canadian, I bet we would, though.

Are you Canadian and a 5th grader? If you are talking about the US it was
called that because the ones buried there were unknown. As far as I know they have now opened it and used DNA testing. I have not seen it done so I am not 100% positive. So, technically if they did then it is no longer the "unknown" some are known.

my understanding is that it's actually a hooker who serviced both union and confederate soldiers at "The Mason-Dixon House Of Pleasure" which eventually was purchased by a Mexican immigrant named Pedro and renamed "South Of The Border".
