I LOVE NPR. I was just listening to The Splendid Table and Lynn had a guy on there that has invented a couple of kitchen things, but this will by far be the coolest.
It's a dishwasher size thingy that you put a plastic substance in and it makes your dishes... plates, cups, saucers, salad plate, etc. A whole setting for however many you want. Takes about 15 minutes.
As if that's not good enough, after dinner, rinse the dishes, put them in the machine and it melts everything down and remakes whatever you want / need next. It's high temp, so i's sanitized.
BONUS! It's still in prototype, but he working on making it so that you can put a design on each item as it's made. No more storing Christmas dishes for once a year. Special ocassion? Add attendees names to the dishes and no more place cards are needed.
It keeps getting recyled, so no more paper plates in the landfill. Reduce need for cabinets in your kitchen designated for dishes, cups, etc. No more washing dishes. It's a heavy melanine type material so if one does get damaged, toss it and make another.
I can hardly wait for this to get on the market.
Any cool inventions you've heard of being close to production and publicly available? Anything you'd like to see invented?
OoooOOOOoooOOOOh!
That sounds super-cool!!!
Has to be an energy guzzler though, to melt that stuff...?
Also, curious about the "rinse" part. If there are food particles left, what happens to them? Are they a problem? If so, then you'd essentially have to wash dishes anyway.
Still, coooooool!
I was happy about the "invention" of hypo-allergenic cats, they're super expensive and have a long waiting list though.
Some kind of general pet-allergy-neutralizer would be nice.
I used to want to be able to open up the front of my head and just file stuff in there that I hated learning (like times tables) so I learned necessary, but excruciatingly boring, stuff without effort.
I still want that.
Hey...maybe that's not so wacky!
If I am really interested in something, I learn effortlessly...perhaps I just need some chemical to make me think I am interested in something?
I'm thinking the chemical is a better idea than a trap door to ones brain.
He said he's working on making it a waterless wahser / sanitizer, so a rinse is all that is needed.
He has already invented a refrigerator with a camera. Lynn said it took pictures of the inside of the frideg. Didn't go into details but sounded like you could push a button, a pic prints out and you go to the store. Forget if you need milk? eggs? Cheese? Look at the picture of the inside of your fridge.
Now... If it were also self cleaning...
Veruca darling, let's see what daddy can do.
How much for the dish thing, Wonka?
..............................................
I read an article in Smithsonian years ago about DARPA and they discussed color changing paint. I'm still wanting that really bad.
Color changing before or after it's used? Or depending on lighting / angle viewed?
Hmmm.....
I wish I still had the article as it discussed several paints in development.
One was a camoflauge paint that would change depending on it's enviornment.
One was a paint that you could somehow set the color.
One was a "self healing" paint that would repair itself over mars and scars.
They were all pretty cool.
