I just got this photo today, it was taken in approximately 1947 which would be about 60 years ago. This was taken in Ras Tanura Saudi Arabia. I am on the left, my older brother Michael is on the right. Within the year he would be dead having drowned in the Persian Gulf which was about 50 feet from our door.

i hope you don't mind me adding a picture here .
it was taken in 1942 .
on the right is my friend 'heinz' . we started school together in grade one and graduated together from highschool eleven years later .
while he stayed in germany , we haven't lost contact .
whenever we visit hamburg , we always find a few days to hang out together - and a couple of times a year we usually yak on the phone - at 5 cents a minute i can afford it .
in the middle is my grand-dad 'karl' ; he always had time for us boys and was a great storyteller .

i wrote her that we had had a good supper :
plenty potatoes in milk-gravy , half-a-slice of bread and herbal tea - i had a full belly  .

Dys, how sad. You both looked like little cuties. I can only imagine the devastation that must have wreaked within your family. I'm sorry you grew up without him. Ever wonder how different life would have been if?

Great photo of the two of you - I'm sure you're glad to have it.

That's a wonderful photograph, dys.
Two beautiful healthy boys!
It's very sad that you two were not able to share and enjoy many more years together.
Was he your only sibling?

Just another thing dys and I have in common -- we've both lost older brothers. I've actually lost two, but who's counting?

That photo has a surreal quality to it because of the age of the paper and the crumpling. Almost leads one to believe you are in the Sahara and there are sand dunes all around.

I've seen this one before.

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words...and that one is in no doubt worth ten thousand.
