You can't argue with that logic.....

Quote:
"Condoms don't belong in school, and neither does Al Gore. He's not a schoolteacher." said Frosty Hardison, a parent of seven who doesn't want the film [An Inconvenient Truth] shown at all.

"The information that's being presented is a very cockeyed view of what the truth is," Hardison said. "The Bible says that in the end times everything will burn up, but that perspective isn't in the DVD."

This is from an article in my paper yesterday reporting that the Federal Way, Washington school board has decided that the film will no longer be shown in schools.

Do you think the school board just said "F*** it. Nothing we say to Frosty will make a bit of difference. She'll end up on The 700 Club or Wife Swap or something and bring us a lot of attention that we don't have the time or energy to deal with."?

That's what I would have said if I were on the school board.

What would you have said?

I would have said that she lost some mental capacity with every
pregnancy she's had. There wasn't much left after the seventh child.

I might have said something similar, but you are ignoring two factors. The first is that people who seek elective office avoid controversy, because they want to be re-elected. That might not be such a strong motivating factor for school board members, but the second consideration might well be. That is that people who do run for school boards probably do so because they have, to a greater or lesser extent, a dedication to the idea that they can help provide a good education for the children in their district. That may motivate some members more than others, or it may be just something to which some members pay lip service. In either case, school board members may well have discussed this among themselves, and have decided it was, on balance, not worth the grief to them.

Religious nut jobs often get their way because people don't want to have to deal with them, and other paths out of the controversy--such as backing down to avoid the controversy--are more attractive to those who don't want to have to deal with the nonsense. Hard to say, though, without knowing each member of the school board.

This is one situation, though, in which one wishes the school board members had the balls to tell her to piss off. Then, perhaps, she'd opt for a private christian school, or home schooling, and cut the local district some slack.

Just another reason we need to do away with the entire concept of "school boards." This is the 21st, not the 18th, century.

I'm a Christian woman!
I can see the logic in her objections to the film.
Al Gore is the star of the film.
Al Gore was Vice President during Bill Clinton's reign.
Bill Clinton had sex.
Al Gore was Vice President during Bill Clinton's sex.
Sex does not belong in schools!
Condoms do not belong in sex!

Therefore Al Gore does not belong in school and neither does his film.!!!

What was so difficult about that? You all are twisted, evil and dark sided! DARK SIDED! That film is tainted!

How Inconvenient is truth.........
Oh. This is so close to my home. Federal Way is a made-up city... nothing there except a load of strip malls and a lot of ticky-tack housing... oh yeah, and the headquarters for Weyerhauser.

Damn.

I'll be showing An Inconvenient Truth[ at the library next week. Maybe I should invite students from Federal Way?

Shewolf, you are soooo evil. I knew there was a reason why I liked you!

With every condom, be sure to also hand out a bonus offer for responding before the deadline. What is that bonus offer you ask? Why an Al Gore for President button with another condom taped on the reverse side.

Church youth groups would be an ideal place to "advertise" since most churchs are not closed minded like our dear Frosty.

Maybe you could contact some churchs in Federal Way.....

Garage Sale like signs on the sides of the streets.

make sure that they face the passenger side of the car , as the driver will be the parent.

But, im not so sure craigs list reaches kids that young?

I know, from experience though.. that here in Austin, you can reach that target age group in the rants and raves section.

but the basic, every day listings?

seems to me to be an adult area.

What about AOL?
do you have that service?

TONS of teenagers hit the chat rooms. Espically if they are local chat rooms

Post a line or two there.

MySpace would be the best one. If you know the names of any of the kids, or the name of the highschool you can do a search and find one kid. That's all it will take. They'll all be banded together by friendship links.

Doing a Google search on "Federal Way, Washington school board" gives a lot of hits both in websites and news articles. Apparently it is a huge controversay there.

I did a search on Myspace for "Federal Way High School Freshman" and found a bunch of student profiles. If you want to go that way, it's there.

Just be careful you don't get accused of being a pervert for posting the film show times there.
