A young man driving a snow mobile just road past my house---my albuquerque house on the West side of the Rio Grande river. Can you imagine that. I have over a foot of snow on my lot. Can't get out of my garage to put my garbage bin at the curb for pickup. Can't get to my mailbox across the street to mail my bill payments. My two dogs have to pee and poop under the covered back entrance to my home. The snow is higher than Dolly, my Japanese Chin. Two of my neighbors across the street are trying to shovel the snow from their driveways so they can get to work.
At a 5,000 foot elevation, Albuquerque is experiencing the third highest snow fall since record keeping started. It's beautiful---as long as you don't have to go anywhere outside. The whole state is shut down. Denver is getting all the media attention but you should see Albuquerque snowed in.

Ill bet its neat. I guess Sandia Peak is open for skiing.

Road? I know how to spell "rode" but wanted to see if you were paying attention.
I want a snow mobile for Christmas.

sandia has 38" base and 2 runs are open.
Kinda funny, we live in a cul-de-sac. 10 houses on each side of the street.
The only driveway/sidewalk that has been shoveled clear is the single lady (40ish) who lives across the street from us.
HA!
well, I guess my idea of visiting has just blown out the window..
I SO wish I was there now.
I do love snow and miss the crisp air and snowy mountains..

My son just called me. They have over 18 inches of snow and its still snowing. He lives 20 miles north of me at an even higher elevation.
Kids on off-road vehicles are riding up and down our streets. Helps to mush the street snow so it's not so dangerous.
Dyslexia just told me that if, for any reason, I need to leave my home, his 4-wheel drive truck can rescue me. Osso Buco is OK as long as she doesn't have to go somewhere. Not very safe to drive on any roads.

Don't let a little snow stop you. We dare you to come to snowy ABQ.

The snow plows are working hard just to try to keep interstates 25 and 40 open to the truckers. I don't think they have time to get to the residential area streets so we are on our own. Shovels and sore backs.
Snowing harder now.

Considering that I wanted to try to be there around the 16th, it is doubtful.
I ran up my webpage in hopes to make some quick cash to fund the trip.. but I forget most people had photographs taken BEFORE christmas..
(sigh)
we shall see.
Trust me.. a little snow wouldnt STOP me.. just slow me down a bit

A California friend just e-mailed me that if little Dolly went outside in the snow, the song won't be "Hello Dolly". It will be "Hello, where's Dolly"

It's been over a week and people in my neighborhood can finally get their cars out of their garages. Road snow is starting to melt and there's a lot of dangerous ice on the roads as the snow melts. Schools, churches, stores are still closed as the roads and parking lots are too icy to be safe.
My son lives 20 miles north of my home at a higher altitude. Two days ago he spent four hours shoveling the snow off the flat roof areas of his house. The flat roofs of several homes in his neighborhood collapsed due to heavy snow weight and the owners were not alert to the problem.
The smaller snow plows crews are trying to help some neighborhoods dig out after they got the worst of the highway snow cleared. The military is dropping hay bales to stranded starving cattle they can locate as well as rescuing people living in remote areas.
Amazing that the Media are concentrating on the snow in Colorado while New Mexico is suffering the most. Such a storm is a rare event and N.M. is not equiped to handle so much snow. People are pretty much on their own to clear snow from their property and streets. I've done some shoveling, but can't do a lot. My neighbors and my son have helped me out so that Dyslexia, Diane and Osso Buco could come to my home for lunch on News Years Day.
It's been so cold that the snow on the ground is barely melting. I'm glad I bought a few wool sweaters in the Fall so I can keep warm while trying to dig out. I may venture out to a grocery store this afternoon. I have no experience driving on icy roads. I'm lucky I bought cleats to slip on my shoes so I can walk in the parking lot without falling on my arse if the snow is not too deep.

Not to be picky, but what you mean ". . . the
whole state is shut down." We're getting a light snow right now. That means the whole state is wet and gloomy. The streets are wet, the cars are wet, and you you go outside, you'll be wet.
I drove with ice around on the streets on Tuesday afternoon, when the snow was higher by quite a bit than it is now. When I put out my trash today, the ice had melted much more than in the last few days. (I also had never driven with ice on the roads.) My block had the highest snow of any I'd seen right around here, including yours, BBB, as this street is right up against the petroglyphs, and I didn't have driving trouble on my street, or in Brooks' parking lot. I did have walking trouble back on Tuesday, with a lot of ice around the mailbox early in the afternoon, but much of that had melted later.
So, I think you'll be all right driving. But, I worry about your walking. Be careful, girl.
other than right in front of my house the streets are clear and dry.
