The Lorna and Rich Video Poll

When I posted Lorna and Rich's "Fairytale of New York" on another thread recently, a suggestion was made that this couple should be made honorary A2K members. I quite agree!

This got me to thinking that maybe they should have their own little thread, as they certainly do have that certain "nutty" quality that would make them fit right in here on A2K.
If there's enough interest in this, you never know, they may just hear about us and join up.

It would appear that they are from the UK, and that fact warms my heart a little, knowing that there are some fellow countrymen out there who just don't give a monkey's about making complete and utter fools of themselves for our entertainment.

So....which one is your fave?

I checked the first one. Alas, I can't distinguish the words, no fault of theirs, 'tis my particular insufficiently working ears.

Lorna is hilarious!

I've watched all four of them, but my favorite is still "Fairytale of New York."

'80s isn't really my thing, but she does it well.

Where do these two come from? I've never heard of them before, and I can't find anything on Google, either.

This one just because Ive always loved that song... Best. Christmas. Song. Ever. Any excuse to hear it again is a good thing. Its so hilariously irreverent yet ultimately sweet and - yeah - moving, even. But mostly funny. But also - well, you get the picture.

I'm an utter failure at learning any text by heart, but I could do the lyrics of this one by heart for years..

I remember it hit #2 in the British charts back then - I was 16 or something - it bombed in Holland. Nobody knows it. :sighs:

For those who don't know the lyrics...

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK
The Pogues

It was Christmas Eve, babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me
"Won't see another one"
And then he sang a song
"The Rare Old Mountain Dew"
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So Happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas Day

You're a bum, you're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead
On a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap, lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas Day

I could have been someone
Well, so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me, babe
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas Day
