Well, I had the interesting argument with an "editor" about whether there were two periods after the abbreviation "Inc." at the end of a paragraph., ie. In September, the Company joined forces with Standard Electric Inc. He insisted there was one period for "Inc" and one for the paragraph Smile

I also tried to convince him that "it's" was not possessive and that scientists don't "enthuse"... alas, to no avail.

Male boss obviously. Any woman will tell you one period is enough.

Thier must be a way to correct the word thier for me.

I have such an issue their with that word that I dont know what to do.

Thier are many posts where I spell there with an I before the E except after C..

or is it the other way around.. ?

I before E except after C.......

......and then Osso came along and told me I was spelling wierd wrongly.

I've spent all my life spelling it wierd, but now I've finally got into the habit of writing weird.

No comments, please.

And then there's "feisty" and "eiderdown" and "eight" and "sleigh/t" and deign/reign, and neighbour... and many more, so that rule kinda goes out the window.

Well, the full rule is

I before E
except after C
except when sounding like A
as in neighbor and weigh

That doesn't account for eiderdown, but it does outline more of the rule.
