Roberta's pies and pumas

I wanted to change my avatar. I went to the profile page. I deleted my old avatar. I selected a new avatar (I clicked on the little black button beneath the picture I wanted.) I clicked on submit. I got a red x in the place where my avatar should be.

What am I doing wrong?
