Yesterday the lady Diane and I were chatting about nothing in particular and she commented that in her previous marriage she was not allowed to just chat; how sad; both she and I tend to ramble on about this that or the other thing.
How can you figure out what you're talking about without a pre-ramble?
dys, I'm speechless on the forbidden chatting. I guess that means that this is the end of this chat.
How do you not chat?
I don't even know HOW to do that with another person in the room.
It depends on the definition of chat, for me. I like small talk. I hate a particular kind of blather though. Not charming, nothing intrinsic about it (think dlowan or osso, who can make digressions interesting no matter what the subject), just going on and on and on about something boring and not getting to the point. When it's ASL, I don't like it, when it's spoken, I can't STAND it. (I need to work for every single one of those pointless words...)
Your situation is a little different, correct?
Think the rain will hurt the rhubarb?
Interesting responses, the conversation about "chatting" came about over lunch when the lady Diane was telling me about a new spanish author she had run across that she found vera interesting.

By staying in the kitchen and baking pies, woman.
It took me many years to learn to "small talk." I still don't do it very well with most folk I meet. You chatters don't know how wonderful that skill is, if you have always had it.
how do you have a relationship with out chatting?
I just talked the mister's ear off about coins....
something he has no interest in, and no concept of.
Yet, for 30 or so minutes, I told him everything I saw on them, every website's name, and even got into how they smell....

What you need is a rolling pin upside that bald head of yours.

If you were making his 'sammich' you wouldnt have heard that..
Fine line 'tween chat and chatter, though, ain't it?
Don't know: it looks like 'and' here.
What is rubarb exactly, Would you consider it a fruit or a vegatable?
Vegetable. Crucial component of the strawberry rhubarb pie, which is the finest baked good known to man.
Strawberry and rhubarb? Veggies and fruit? How do you combine them for a pie? Is it sweet?

Communication is important in a marriage. Not every conversation needs to revolve around Iraq or global warming.
