Been messing with my avatar recently...
I lost my 'eye' a while back and can't find it anymore!
Also, I had a fish for a while, which I really liked (nope - can't find that either).
Your avatar gives some insight into your character initially (accepted? we all make assumptions).
But do you think it influences your replies?
There have been occasions when the gender of a member has not always been apparent by the subject and post, and if they have an ambiguous avatar do you assume they are male or female?
Are cute avatars more likely to solicit less harsh replies (if a contentious remark is being challenged let's say)
Just like more 'attractive' suspects criminals receive lighter sentences?
Or does it depend on the length of time you have known the member?
Does gender influence your replies?
PS 'gender of a member' sounds funny if you say it out loud... go on - try it!

I didnt realize you HAD a member??
I thought you were a girl..
hehehe
I think, an avatar helps CREATE your 'person' in a forum like this.
But ultimatly.. its yur spelin dat makes the diffurence
Yes it influences replies for sure.
For example I don't like "macho" type avatars, they always depress me, but yours are always fun.

oh, my dearest she (smorgs bends, tickles and strokes shewolf)
Maybe I am the best of both?
You can only see my top half, maybe I'm holding a 10 inch love python!
Have you not noticed my defensive posts about transexuals?
Tino - glad my avatar finds favour!

Avatars! Blimey, I've just noticed I havn't giot one! You lot are so lucky...
No, seriously, everytime I try to upload one from my computer it tells me it's the wrong type so until I find one that is i remain avatarless. Boo hoooo!
We could have such fun with the 'member' thing now...
But Walter will tell me off!
I could say things like...
If a member is up front - are they received better?
If you are fond of that particular member - would you ever make oral contact?
Have you ever come across the same member in other areas?
okay, okay...
I'll stop now!

You may need to resize it first. It cannot be larger than 90 pixels wide and 100 pixels high and no more than 6kb in size.

Sound the smut alert!!!
Sarah is back to her best, or at her best!!
Has a member ever taken you by surprise?
Has a member ever gone up/down in your estimation after a particular encounter?
Right! I'm really going to stop now...
It's just delaying tactics - I am now going to shop/cook/clean

Do some older members like to have sandbags to fall asleep on?
Sorry, not very good, that one. I'll stop it now too...
Are you aware when a member is feeling a little deflated in need of TLC?
(I've gone now)
Well, your thread may take off after all. I've met "in real life" so many people that i first encountered at Abuzz, and later at this site, that i don't necessarily "see" the person as their avatar. Jespah, Region Philbis, Lil' Kay, the General (who is Blaise Daily here), Plainoldme, Diane, Timber, Soz, Patiodog, MarleyFrancis, Cavfancier, BoGoWo, the Prince--i can't even remember all of the people i've met in life whom i first encountered online.
I tend so see either the face of those whom i've met, or i see an image of the person based on the typical content of their posts, much as one "sees" a particular person that one encounters in literature. I find the avatars entertaining, and joke about them from time to time--but i don't think they condition my response to people.
Awww. C'mon now.
Tell me I'm not the cutest lil thing you've ever seen.
Just try to be mean to my avatar.
Just try!
Bet ya can't.
...why you mangey...
Nope! I just can't do it!

Somebody sign that dog up for an advertising campaign. He/she's a star!
Hey, what's that =/ thingy?
Why you better get an avatar if you're gonna talk to me like THAT!!!
(Oops. I'm cute and warm and fuzzy and keep your feet warm in the winter. I almost forgot.)
Hey, Joe, how about this for an avatar for yourself? It's not sized though.
Joe - Save the picture to your computer. Open it in "Paint." Resize using the percentage under Image - Stretch/Skew until it fits the size requirements for A2K avatars. Then you can upload it under your Profile - Browse.
Let's face it, we're all curious and want to see how people look like,
so for me, the best avatar is always a real picture of the person.
What I've seen so far in real life pictures, has mostly agreed with their
online personality, and how I pictured them.
Except for gustav, he plays his online personality down to a tee.
