Over familiar people

Most people know I have my down moments but just to add to my annoyance are a new breed of people, usually 25 year old shop assistants who insist on calling me 'darlin''.
Awright sweedhard,aw yoos doin' taday.

I wouldnt mind if they were true cockneys but they are people who have got it in their head to be over familiar and call me 'sweedhard darlin'.

I just want to tell them 'you dont know me, you dont care about me and please dont tell me to take care sweedhard because you couldnt care less if I got hit on the head with a wet mackeral just so long as I buy something from your shop'!!

Are there people like this in the USA or do they only exist in the UK so far.

I find it somewhat patronizing when women of my own age or younger call me "dear". I don't know why, it just stirs some inner demon in me when I hear it.

I'll accept Sweet epithets when I'm travelling in the South--or working in the theatre.

Otherwise, I smile bravely and move onward. The older I get, the better I am about ignoring the unthinkable.

I find it quite amusing when some one younger than be calls be darling or hon or even miss. I honestly don't mind. It is much better than the typical clerk that doesn't even acknowledge your existence. I look at it that they are just trying to be nice.

I find myself calling people honey by mistake since having children. I am so used to calling my kids things like sweetie and honey that I have inadvertently called people that at work. It can be quite embarrassing when you start calling certain people sweetie at work.

And if you're a guy, it can cost you quite a lot too!
