Solicitation for A2K ?? grassroots support?????????

While I'm not one of the powers, organizers, content specialists , I'm going to appeal to the audience at large for a one time single contribution to A2K, (I'll maybe get into trouble for this) here's one plan: 1800 users at 2% or 3% percent that contribute that's between 36 and 54 people to contribute a one time amount of say $5 to $20 more if you want, (I'm going against the boss here) we could get close to $1,000. In my opinion this could make a BIG difference in the operation of A2K until a business plan and strategy are formulated and put into action to make A2K into the successful Forum that it deserves to be.

Craven has mentioned, on numerous occasions, that he is not looking for donations.

Other merchandise is coming but I have delayed it to allow those hats to clear the shelves.

As to donations I will be posting more about this in the future. I don't want out and out donations for many reasons.

Please, please, please take these hats off our hands. Do with them what you will, but please take delivery of them, otherwise you will totally mess up the accounting. Thanks!

I'm sorry but I cannot even think of one reason.

Donation: a free contribution (no strings attached)
Gift: something voluntarily transferred by one person to another without compensation

Think of it as a 6 month 1/2 birthday present.
So what ya gunna do if people give me the money and I buy all the hats and give them away?

I have accounts with C2it.com (Citibank) - pretty safe
and Paypal also not bad for security sake - Wink

I'd refuse to sell them to you and you would answer to the people who gave you money. Nothing personal but that's an unacceptable situation (third party collection etc).

In any case we have online payment systems so this is not needed.

Again, plans are in the works. When we are ready to accept payments we will. For now I'll pay for the server. I prefer to do this than setup a situation that I do not agree with. Expecially a situation involving money. I do not like negative situations involving money and will ensure that I do not enter one. I'd rather have a negative balance.

Really, the wish to help is appreciated, but when I'm ready to set things up I will and I will not accept any contributions that other people solicit.

Someone already tried to register a similar domain and solicit donations for Able2Know. There are a multitude of situations that I have to have in mind. I don't like dealing with money but what I dislike even more is to have other people deal with it for me.

I will outline my plans shortly.

I know it was not you. I didn't even think you would think so. It was just an example and one more reason I am more cautious about how I go about things.

I got the domain and it's parked. But every week I look for more. Just another thing to deal with and that's why I'm not going to accept any revenue that I have not authorized.

Currently only the A2K caps is authorized and once those are sold www.able2know.com will be the only place authorized to accept any revenue for the site.

Other examples:

The ad-free forum subscriptions are already problematic for me. I am not satisfied with the service I am providing to the few subscribers and it's nagging at me. I need to improve it. I've thought of many ways and it's still not easy.

I said I would buy a hat.

But I can't get to that site to do so.

(I have a problem accessing all geocities.com sites for reasons unknown to me.)

At any rate, how can I get my hat?

A2K needs to develop and implement a strategic plan to be able to compete in the forum community.
Is anyone looking at the strengths and weaknesses??
Let's leverage the strengths here to and apply it to the weaknesses, CDK you said yourself you want to lift A2K higher.
SWOT Analysis = Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats
What advantage does A2K have?
What does A2K do well?
What resources does A2K have?
What do other people see as A2K strengths?
What could A2K improve?
What does A2K do badly?
What should A2K avoid?
Where are the good opportunities facing A2K?
What are the trends A2K has?

Opportunities can come from:
Changes in technology (gosh right now)
Changes in A2K ??
What obstacles does A2K face?
What is the A2K competition doing?
Is changing technology threatening A2K position?
Does money play a roll in problems? (lack of)
Can any of the weaknesses threaten A2K?

Um, husker, do you really think Jes and Craven aren't already on top of this? They've done a pretty amazing job so far and I kinda doubt that just happened without a lot of thought and effort... I'm sure that thought and effort will continue.
