Well... I'm back now, but apparently for just a short visit. I am moving to NV and going to work on a Dude Ranch. Thats right. 38,000 acres with 16,000 cows, 13,000 sheep, and who knows how many horses. (YES!!!!! HORSES!!!!) It is near a decent size town so there's a good chance I'll be able to get internet service of some sort (hopefully). OMG I can't believe I'm actually getting an opportunity to do this! Whooooo hooooooo! Anyway, I'll leave in about three days and have no clue when I'll be back online again. I'm sure it's going to take me a while to get adjusted to this job and start doing things besides just sleeping and working. I promise you this though. This is the thread where I will post pictures. Lots of pictures, because you know it's going to be beautiful out there! Very Happy Ha! I'm so excited! Anyway, that's all. Just wanted to share. Cool

And always remember:

"Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue,
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you!"

Howdy ma'am. Let's rustle up some of them cattle. Maybe after that we can chaw some tobaccy and have a cappuccino.

Well, just cause yer a cowgirl don't mean you have to be totally uncivilized!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and well wishes. I did a little research this morning and found some pretty good pictures of the mountains just outside of the town I will be living in, so I decided to post a mini photo show for you guys as a preview of what is to come. The first two were taken by me a few days ago. So... here goes nothing:

From beachside sunsets:

So... as I was drifting off to sleep last night I was thinking about this whole thing. He told me in the off season when there are no guests we go out to the far pasture to check on the cows. A two hour ride from the Ranch. Depending on how they are you can be gone for as long as 12 hours out there. He said if they need doctoring we just throw them down in the pasture and doctor them out there. Hmm... me throw down a cow... Oh boy... I was just about asleep when I was jolted awake by this thought: "Hmmm... I bet there's no porto-potties out there, eh?" Shoot, I bet even on the long trail rides there are no porto-potties... LOL THIS going to be interesting! I'm still excited. I hope this works out. If it doesn't though... at least I can say I tried it, eh?

Alright... time to get packing. It looks like I might be leaving tomorrow instead of this weekend. It's going to be a four day trip from here. I decided not to push myself to do it in three. 800 miles a day is just too much I think. If I'm not back again before I leave, take care you guys. I'll keep you posted as much as I can. Very Happy

Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaw!

16,000 cows, 13,000 sheep, and who knows how many horses
Take it from me kiddo thats a lot of stables to muck out each day and
one heck of a lot of sheep to muster, drench, dip, shear and crutch. do you get flystrike in the states? When a particular fly lays eggs in the sheeps wool that hatch into maggotts that devour the sheeps flesh. they need to be shorn to remove the maggots. the shears chew up the maggotts and spit them into the shearers face.

I bet you will learn to pull a calf real quick.

still on balance I'd rather farm than work in an office anyday.

get in behind ya mongrel!

Hope your ranch experience is everything you dream it will be. Be careful out there- it's a long walk back to the barn. And beware of the cowboys- they all aren't as polite as Roy Rogers or Gene Autry.

Ok, I got a little more information about this actually. After reading dadpads post I was left looking like this ---> Shocked I will have three primary responsibilities: the care and upkeep of 15 horses, teaching the guests how to ride, and taking them on trail rides. My secondary responsibilities if there are no guests will be: mowing, week wacking, and housekeeping, well... pretty much whatever else needs to be done around the ranch. I will be helping out herding the cows, but will not be expected to throw any of them to the ground. (LOL that probably would have been a sight to see) And if there are guests present during that I will be responsible for them more than the cows. Making sure they are safe and not doing anything that will hurt themselves.

As far as the sheep, that is a completely different department, not even part of the job I'm being hired for. I got a serious case of the jitters about this whole thing this morning. Almost backed out. LOL Then I remembered, you only live once and dang it all, I'm gonna live like I may not have a tomorrow or next year. I'm going to do the things I want to do so when my time comes I have no regrets or nothing to look back on and say, "Dang, I sure wish I would have done that." This is such a cool opportunity. HA! So anyway, my parents decided they need a vacation, so they will be making the trip out there with me. How cool is that? The Ranch is going to put them up for free as long as they would like, food and any activities will be free as well. We will be leaving tomorrow. Shocked So. With that said, I will bid you all a farewell for now, as I have much to do in order to be ready to leave in the morning.

SEE YA! Very Happy Whooooo hoooooooo!

Timber... OMG! LOL! I'm glad you survived that! I'll try to remember not to start any big bon fires in a hurry with gas!

Noddy, you could be on to something there... I think I'm going to find a lot of interesting emotional perspective on a lot of different things through this little adventure of mine. Smile

Ok, I'm really off now. Finally got the truck packed. Had to save the computer for last you know... *sigh* Well... here's to good times! Take care everyone. I hope to be back soon. Very Happy
