Today is the first day of Hindu New Year, also called as 'Gudi Padva' in Mumbai (Maharashtra). It is believed that on 'Gudi Padva' :
1. The Universe was created by Brahma.
2. Satyuga (The Age of Truth and Justice) began.
3. King Vali was killed by Rama. Shri Rama returned to Ayodhya victorious later after on the day of Diwali.
4. This is one of the 3 and a half days in the Hindu Lunar calendar, whose every moment is considered auspicious apart from other 2 days of Dussera (Vijayadashmi) & Akshay Tritiya.
On this day we set up sticks with silk and a inverted golden jug on the roof tops. It looks something like this ....
Pssssssssstttttt, hey Vin.... wanna buy some beef?

Good for you, Vinsan ! ! !
Holy cow!
(though I hear there is a thriving black market for black Angus in India)
I'm not terribly familiar with Hindu cookery, but they use potatoes, which warms the heart of an Irishman. There's a little Indian place on Gerrard in Toronto to which my Sweetiepie and i have gone of a Sunday afternoon, for the buffet. They have an excellent dish with potatoes in yellow curry which i just love, and i like their lentils, as well--i'm not that crazy about chick peas, but you can't have everything your own way.

That lentil's curry often called as Daal is a very famous Indian food item which is ate with simple rice. They form a lovely duo.
Vinsan--
Happy New Year. May it be a time of new beginnings.
Happy New Year, vinsan! May it be a sweet year for you and yours.
Hey vin, could u post some photos around your hometown?
I'm curious abt that! Expecting your fotos!
Hey vinsan, of course I was just joking about the beef. My co-worker is a vegetarian Hindu and I tease him mercilessly about putting beef jerky in his food when he isn't looking.
Happy New Year, vinny.
I mean...............Belated of course.
