I've just had a marvellous site sent to me via an email.

I didn't know half of these things were still being made.

Wonka whipple scrumptious fudgemallow delight.

Bazooka Joe bubble gum.

Happy tattoo bubble gum.....and many more.

DENTIST'S DELIGHT!

Were/are some of these things also sold in the U.S.?

Oh wait a minute, my daughter brought home some
Bazooka Bubble gum.

WOW!

I didn't even eat much candy as a kid, and I recognized a bunch of them.

I think that because where I grew up, we had candy stores, were you also bought your newspapers, magazines, etc. Like a news dealer I guess.

Unfortunatley, 7-11's have taken over that market....Most of the stuff I never even tried, they were just these odd bits in bins that had funny names. I think mainly grownups bought some of them, some of the candies sure didn't appeal to me as a kid.

Lately, I've discovered Haribo Frogs....yum. They're lime green froggies with a white belly...

as far as gum...I'd heard/had bazooka, bubblicious, dubble bubble, hubba bubba.

Ritter is really great, I love their marzipan covered with chocolate....

and of course, who can forget cola bottles, candy necklaces and parma violets.

I didn't see any Bonomo Turkish Taffy, Dots, Rock Candy or Candy cigarettes....what's the world coming to?

We didn't buy sweeties by the ounce. We could buy penny candy, piece by piece. Spending a nickle took deep thought--and I realize now, infinite patience on the part of the store clerk.

There's a lot of candy there I don't recognize, but I'd love to try.

As a kid, we had (down at the only place you could buy stuff in town, the cafe):
penny candies:sour, black balls, gummy bears, that lot
rockets, mojos, candy lips, licorice cigars, gold nuggets gum, jawbreakers, hubba bubba, bazooka joe(with the lil cartoons inside), big league gum(?)
ETC.

We got a buck to spend, and I remember I could get a 7-up or Rootbeer in the glass bottle, plus either a chocolate bar or a whole lot of candy.

I adore sweets. I heartily endorse spending some money, as a grown-up, and having a candy feast. Razz

I'm wearing Bazooka Gum logo-ed socks right now.

Love silly candies. Always keep candy cigarettes in the glove box. Lemonheads are my not so secret passion.

Ah, candy cigarettes are not allowed in the US. I guess for
fear that children could get hooked and exchange them
one day for nicotine cigarettes (they do anyway).
We used to have them as children though.

Chai, Haribo and Ritter are German, the British are not
really known for making good chocolates/candy, in fact,
their chocolates aren't tasty at all.

I think some Cadbury lovers are going to be looking for you, CJ.

The U.S. is weird about candy generally. I can recall a time when you couldn't buy Kinder-eggs in the U.S - people would come up from the Boston office of a company I worked for, and then 'smuggle' back bags of Kinder-eggs. Seems American kids couldn't handle the tiny surprises.

Once you know Lindt, Milka and Ritter, you won't eat
Cadbury any longer.

Kinderueberraschung (eggs) are still prohibited here,
for the reason you mentioned, ehBeth, but luckily we have
a pipeline to Germany, and so far the eggs haven't been
confiscated yet http://www.borge.diesal.de/schiel.gif

Sorry CJ. As much as I like Lindt, Cadbury's got some products that no one else can match - like the Flaky. <and I'm not actually a chocolate-liker/lover, or Cadbury freak>

Cadbury doesn't produce 'real' chocolate but uses non cocoa-butter vegetable fats, "cocoa butter enhancers" and substitutes. (All allowed under EU-law, which was specially made for the British producers.)

I haven't tried that one. I don't like the vegetable fat
they use for their chocolates.

Oh, I didn't see Walter's post before - yes the vegetable
fats and substitutes are quite noticable, aren't they?

Honestly, I recently got some truffels from England, specially wrapped, called 'premium de luxe quality' - even the cheapest fabric-made chocolates tatse here better. (And they were really expensive, by Thornton's!!!)
